How to calculate chain pitch?

How do you calculate a chain pitch. Do you count the number of links and multiply by 2? So a chain with 36 links would be a 72 pitch chain. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

It is determined by the distance between your upper and lower sprockets/gears and your gear size (# of teeth). Polaris, Ski Doo and Arctic Cat all have a chain pitch chart in their service manuals for the different gear ratios you can run in your chaincase for your respective sled.:beer;

Sorry, I read to far into your question. YES, 36 links would equal a 72 pitch chain. Each pin equals a pitch so count the links and multiply by 2 or count each pin.:beer;

Shane- is this for a Poo or a Cat or a Doo and what model? I believe they differ because of the center-to-center distance of the gears differs between makes and sometimes models?

you need to get some sleep... just a general rule, put your chain specks in and go... can't give all the good out.

look who's talking...I just got back from dinner with the old lady (wife) and here you are on line! I picture you sitting there in your special riding shorts you were wearing in those pics on the forum with a six pack of beer and the T.V. remote while you browse the forum......am I close???
