How to adjust belt deflection, 1996 XCR 440 SP.

It likely has 3 adjusting pins that rest inside the retainer ring on the outside of the secondary. Loosen the 3 bolts and turn the ring to bring the sheaves closer together. Retighten the bolts. If you have a way to support the rear end, run the machine through a couple belt engagement cycles then shut off and remeasure the deflection. Adjust until you are where you want to be. Might try it with a new belt too.

Before loosening the bolts and turning the adjuster, pull the belt deeper into the driven so that it's more open. Loosen the three bolts on the adjuster cup turn it counterclockwise (towards #1 position) to decrease belt deflection or clockwise (toward position #5) to increase deflection. Shop manual says not to turn past position #1.

x2 on maybe time to replace belt. then see if she needs adjusting which will require jackin it up and spinnin the track for a while. a tiny bit of track movement at idle is normal, nothing that bogs the motor when you brake it though.
