How often?

I seem to need to add air once a year on my sled. My bikes with floats run much higher psi & they're the same way.

temperature variations do have a sizable impact...5 psi or more..me being a fair weather sledder i seem to get away with very few adjustments...but if someone sleds the full spectrum of weather i just can;t see how they get away with not adjusting back and forth quite often..??

AIR?

Does a person ever have to add air to their air shox or is it set it and forget it?

The automotive Ind is useing nitrogin in tires,It lasts 5 times longer does not change with temp, molecular structure is larger so it wont leak out and its non flamible..

It is MORE stable with temp/elev. changes than just "air" and less "seepage". Also eliminates moisture....put air in your shocks and you are also putting any humidity/moisture in there. Aircraft use nothing but nitrogen....at least the big planes.

yes it is more stable and wont drop hardly any liquids, but the PSI will rise and lower with temp:light:

Morsno, way up there in AK do you have to buy an additive or supplement to get your nitrogen blend right at 78% or do you just get yours naturally?

I made this handy pie chart to demonstrate my air shock mixuture forula.

I do also include some other trace gasses in there.

Scott, as far as the additives go, it depends on if you are down in Anchorage by the ocean or if you are up in Fairbanks due to the temperature difference.

Thanks for the handy pie chart Scott. You may want to look at mass marketing a decal that could be placed on/near an air shock for quick reference. You could also include a nonflamable comment in the fine print!

RMK SeVeN makes a valid point taking humidity into consideration. In Fairbanks, I've noticed that beer seems to evaporate pretty fast from a freshly poured mug...or is that just leakage from the lack of nitrogen?

Damn!!! I hadn't considered all that. You guys will certainly have to use a different formula for calculating your nitrogen.

I usually just S.W.A.G. it and I THINK I get pretty lucky most of the time. I notice a HUGE difference, however, when I fill mine during global warming during a La Nina weather pattern.

remember to purge the plain air from your air pressure guage and fill with nitrogen gell in the sensor cavity otherwise the nitogen filled shock is all for nothing as you can not get an accurate reading if your guage is not purged with the gell...you can send the guages to me and i will purge them for 20 dollars and it will last one year...unfortunately i am the only person with the trade rights to this gell so if ya want it done i am the only fella...i will divulge the rights for 2 iridium spark plugs and ONE BILLION DOLLARS...or a nude photo of Sarah Palin

Just can't get anything for free these days.

So back to the original question, is it just set it and forget it after getting the proper nitrogen blend through a gell filled sensor cavity pump?

What kind of gell should I use? My fox pump is oil only, should I ask the dealer for a gell pump?
