How much is a billion dollars?

How many zeros in a billion?

This is too true to be funny.

The next time you hear a politician use the
word 'billion' in a casual manner, think about
whether you want the 'politicians' spending
YOUR tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend,
but one advertising agency did a good job of
putting that figure into some perspective in
one of it's releases.

A. A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

B. A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

C. A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

D. A billion days ago no-one walked on the earth on two feet.

E. A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government is spending it.

While this thought is still fresh in our brain...

let's take a look at New Orleans ...

It's amazing what you can learn with some simple division.

Louisiana Senator, Mary Landrieu (D)

is presently asking Congress for 250 BILLION DOLLARS

to rebuild New Orleans . Interesting number...

what does it mean?
A. Well... if you are one of the 484,674 residents of New Orleans
(every man, woman, and child) you each get $516,528.

B. Or.... if you have one of the 188,251 homes in
New Orleans , your home gets $1,329,787.

C. Or.... if you are a family of four... your family gets $2,066,012.

Washington, D. C. HELLO!

Are all your calculators broken??

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago...
and our nation was the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt...

We had the largest middle class in the world...

and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What happened?

Can you spell 'politicians!'
And I still have to

press '1'

for English.
I hope this goes around the USA

at least 100 times. What happened???

Let's face by the time they are done(with bailouts) it's going to be a Trillion $$$$$

Hmmmm.....1 trillion/141million(approximation of people that pay taxes)=$7,092
I could do alot of stimulating with that :)

umm, it is already past a trillion.

Hey it's only money, right, we'll print more......well that's how I believe the politicians think on this subject. What an irritating thing to watch.........
Maybe they need the wage cuts...:light:

Dont worry Obama is going to CHANGE it all.. Yeah right already using how many from Clintons years??? Some change!!!!

well, technically speaking he is correct.
We are going to see change.
At no time did he say it was going to be GOOD change, just change.

Want to hear something REALLY funny? Last year one of the businesses that is recieving the largest amount of the "bailout" $$ (I forget the name of the company) gave out over 19 billion in BONUSES ALONE!!!...in 1 YEAR!!! Let them fail, they bring it on themselves.

I believe it was AIG. Here is a good one for ya.....got it from a friend. How about the government doing something like this with the NEW $770 billion dallar bailout. Don't give it to the banks and car companys. Give it to the consumer......US! You wanna see the economy stimulated! That pencils out to about 1.4 mil per serson. hmmmmmm lets think out that for a while....
Below is an email I received from a friend. Kinda interesting.
Higs

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.
Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a We Deserve It Dividend.
To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00. My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam. But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family? Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved. Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads. Put away money for college - it'll be there. Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs. Buy a new car - create jobs. Invest in the market - capital drives growth. Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves. Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else.

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces. If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out
a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it. Sell off its parts. Let American General go back to being American General.
Sell off the real estate. Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up. Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work." But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom? I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion We Deserve It Dividend more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, the plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because $25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Quote: So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.

That's only $425. But hey, I'll still take it!

Does anyone in the USA know how to do division? $425 dollars each not $425,000.
Funny the big three auto CEO's flying into Washington in their private jets asking the goverment for money for their flawed business models.

You want to save the auto industry?
Dump the auto unions.
They have driven the cost of doing buisness up to the point the US auto makers can't compete.

I have to completely agree with that! The unions are what are ruining the economy. All they do is make sure that fat, lazy, no good, worthless employee can sit on his fat a$$ and get paid $35 an hour with benefits.

+eleventybillion

Unions have done their thing. Now they're obsolete, costing everyone money and moving jobs overseas.
