How much Fuel Is Needed?

Looking to have 4 different tanks built for my enclosed trailer..Each is 60 gallons, will have its owns fill spout and fuel pump on each.. I have been told this is illegal to have this much fuel but have found a way to make that work.
Reason for different tanks is my group runs a variety of fuel from 91,110,100 LL etc.. Am i going overboard to build this system? tanks and pumps are close to 5,500$! Looking to integrated it into the floor as i do much custom true in-floor heat!!

Modern gas stations use a mixing system. In other words, they get a tank of lower octane and a tank of high octane and then mix all the grades in between with the high and low octane tanks.

I wonder if there is a consumer version of this of it one could be made up?

That way you could just have two tanks, and less weight, but have to deal with filling them more often.

I find at elevation, alot of people overestimate (Or think they need more) the octane they need. Higher elevation = less octane needed.

That is a ton of fuel man. Last year I went on a 5-day trip with friends. We took 2-55 gallon drums of 91 and 20 gallons of 110 for 6 sleds. We didn't even use all of that. We were putting in 40 miles a day of hard riding. I think you would be hard pressed to ever find yourself needing that much fuel unless you had a VERY large group.

Hey Thanks for the info i just did some simple math of 5 sleds 12 gallons a day times 5 days.

You may want to check the payload capacity of your trailer!!!!! As KevinM7 stated, that much fuel is going to be around 2000lbs, not to mention the weight of the tanks and plumbing to go with it.

I would be surprised if each sled uses 12 full gallons. Especially in a larger group like that. Larger group tend to do a little less fuel usage. My group is at most 8 gallons a day when you average it all out over the course of a week.

also, assume all sleds are topped off for day one of your trip ahead of time, which usually also tends to be one of the hardest riding days since everyone is fresh.

and im betting everyone would use more like 7-8 gallons a day average. running dry and coming home on spare gas is a task, especially 5 days straight is probably not gonna happen. you get so tired and ride less and less each day.

Also take into consideration, dragging a crap load of modern fuel around sucks, if its sitting for a few weeks to a month+ between trips, chances are its not what you started with octane wise.

Thank you for all the input.... I will adjust my tank sizes to a smaller size after seeing some of your feed back... My Trailer weight is 4,400 lbs and total payload is 7,600 lbs.... The trailer has 2 6 K axles so I feel I have a good amount of payload left over.

I think Wheel House makes a very valid point also. Unless you are certain that you will use all the fuel you purchase within a week or two, it's really not worth it these days with quality of fuel. Why risk burning down by running some bad gas.
