so we all know the history of the pro engine before the 15-16 new piston axy engine , so wonder what the average is on the 800 axy engine before they go boom ? i have a 16 i bought new , put the auto sidekick on at 1200 miles , sitting at 2050 now untouched and running strong

on any 2 stroke it's a good idea to put new pistons in around 1500 to 2000 miles ,there is never any guaranties on when any kind of mechanical device breaks . that' s why anyone that sells any motor vehicle from the cheapest to the most expensive
has a shop built on the side of them .

I only made it another 100 miles more than you before my top end seized

If your running good fuel it should be good, make sure and run a few gallons of 100LL per tank or some race fuel. If your having some doubts then do a leak down test for peace of mind.
Installed my kit at 600 miles, currently at 2750 and it still runs amazing....did a leak down a couple rides ago and one side is @ 2% the other at 2.25% so still good strong numbers and running very well for me.

What does that mean? You cold seized it? That’s not the engines fault. Oil injection quit?
Doubt it was from a cold seize. I was on the trail out and it locked up. I am pretty easy on my sled for warm up as I get ready to unload from my truck and let it heat soak as I get dressed. The pistons deform out of round over time and can take out a cylinder or two. I wish I had replaced my pistons at the start of the season, but hindsight is 20/20

so i tore it down , at 2125 miles , everything looked really good , went back together with new oem pistons , wrist pin bearings , will break it in today

on our rentals we are seeing between 2k and 2500 before we are doing the topends in them. most of them are 18's. we did just have the pto side break off on a 19 with 1900 miles.

year and piston part #
15 pro rmk 2206163
15 rush pro 2206158
16 pro rmk 2206158
17 pro rmk 2208214
18 pro rmk 2208214
19 pro rmk 2208214
20 pro rmk 2208214
so i wonder what is different between 16 piston and the others ?

I can't answer the piston question but I do know that between 2011 and 2021 I lost 10 engines that went down on account of the upper ring retaining pin falling out, the ring then rotated and caught on the exhaust port ripping the dome off the piston. They all died between 1,900 and 2,100 miles just like clockwork. I feel that if anyone makes it beyond 2,100 miles or 105 hours you are extremely lucky.

I must a lucky one, my original top end made it to 200 hrs, (all mountain riding) as leak down on mag side dropped from 2.5% to 6% after a deep trip.
