How long is the season in Utah?

I'm moving down to Utah from Anchorage in September while my wife is in residency and was wondering when your season usually starts? How close are the riding areas to Salt Lake? Does Utah require you to register your sled? Hopefully I can meet up with some of you people to show me around the area a bit.

thanks.

Well.

If it's anything like it was last year, about a month and a half :(

Season can start as early as Oct and as late as Dec. Usually we get Great snow through the end of April/ first of May, but can get late snow into June.:face-icon-small-coo

Riding Areas in almost every direction from 20 minutes away to 1 1/2hrs away. Yes you must register your sled, it might benefit you to get an out of state tag instead of a local. You can pick those up almost anywhere.

Good luck.:beer;

That the craziest thing I have ever heard. Got Almost 80 days in last year with
55 of those being epic. :face-icon-small-hap

Oh ya and I missed out on all the May and June riding this year. Which I hear was some of the best.

Where ....?

I had one epic day at Wolf Creek this year and that was it ... Daniel's/Strawberry didn't get jack, the lower uintahs didn't get jack ...

I was either in the Snowies or Rabbit Ears like every weekend last winter :(

thanks for the replys. I've nothing but good things about Utah's riding and heard your snow is way better then ours in ak, just not as much of it. What is the typical elevation for riding? We ride at sea level to 4,000' and I'm trying to get an idea what I'll need to do with my turbo as far as clutching goes.

Do you mean boarding states to Utah or keep my ak tags?

Just get an out-of-state tag when you first move here, they're about 1/2 the price of the in-state tags.

What part of Utah are you moving to? We unload at 6000 ft. Ride up to 10000 ft. I spent a couple weeks in soldotna this summer, I freaking love Alaska! I'll be happy to show ya around Utah.

I'm going to be living in Salt Lake right in the University Hospital area. Yeah that would be great if you could show me around to some riding areas.

I started this season in Early December (very sketchy though) and ended just before June. I still could've gone on a few more rides, but I was too busy with everything else and just didn't have time to go. And this was NOT a good year for Utah snow.

Welcome Hammer!
Lots of good people here, as well as some great terrain. There should be plenty of "guides" willing to let you tag along....myself included.
Theres always great snow in Utah....you might have to go from one end of the state to the other...but none the less....it is always great! Hope we have an epic year, so you can enjoy the "true" beauty of Utah!
Steve

Utah always delivers it just might not be in your preferred location...you've got to be willing to go where it snows. last year the place to be from December to March was southern Utah...Moab to Cedar City. By April and May it really started snowing in the Wasatch and Uintah mtns, Its different every year. If you can time it right (get to the mtn the second a storm ends) Spring riding in Utah is the best riding. Most all riding is above 6k and up to around 10k some places are a little lower and a little higher then that range. I think hatchers on here made the move from Alaska he may have more insight on the transition for you. Living in the vicinity of the University Hospital could be interesting for you being the snowmobiling type....you might be on your own on that one.

I had to double check and see if it was a PJ post!

Started my season in the high Uintas and ended it in the Wasatch back, and hit almost everywhere else in between.

snengineer and snail bait are right, you have to pick and choose and be willing to chase the storms. But Utah never disappoints.
I put just about 2500 miles on my SHR860 and an additional 300 to 400 miles on a loaner 2010X. Was an Awesome season for sure.

Thanks for the replys everyone I appreciate it and thanks for the heads up on my new neighbors, but I'm surrounded by hippies in AK so the adjustment shouldn't be too bad. I'm not too worried about having to drive distances to go ride because I don't plan on getting a job while I'm Utah for the winter. I'm actually headed down today to go see the house I've been paying for the last couple months and see the wife. My wife said the weather has been great down there ( but I wish I was on my ocean boat fishing because our season is so short up here) and there' a lot of stuff to do there this time of year, any suggestions. Brining a cooler full of halibut and salmon down with me and may have to a BBQ next time I come back and meet some of you people. thanks again

Brad

I've risen in great powder as early as Oct. 20 and as late as memorial weekend. What residency is your wife doing at the U??

she's in a GPR for dentistry at the University of Utah hospital. Man it's hot here!!!!!!! My fish was starting to get soft, but thankfully it didn't thaw. I got a lot of work to do to get my sled ready for the season from my last ride in may. My rails stabbed through track and messed f-up my rails rear axel and my track.

On what.....snowshoes?? You need to be getting a sled this year Dunner!:face-icon-small-win

Ouch that hurt! I was in healing mode last season, back surgery :(

You can bet that I will be on the snow ALOT this season, gotta make up for last season!
