How long does it last?

Well, first year on planning to go sledding in the mountains, and i was curious to see how long the snow lasts up there in altitude. Also maybe thinking about finding a place to rent anywhere where there's sledding, no preference until late april, maybe find a side job to earn some cash for when i'm there. Rig got shut down and i have another job lined up in April, so looking for part time employment out in the mountains. So if anyone has their own business that needs an extra hand and has a room to rent that would be deadly.

PM me if you know of something.

Yeah, i hear it's nice in spring time, not much Avalanche risk, and the snow has a base. Probably would be even better because the snow will be firmer and my firecat will be able to hook up.

AH YA, na sorry ya missed it. Snows all gone by second week in March .TOO LATE SORRY.LOL

Haha, yeah, maybe here in Prairies the snow might as well be gone, it's all hard as a rock. I'm looking forward to the warm temperatures to a day of fun with the soft sticky snow.

Every year is different as to snow pack, how soon temps warm up, sun or cloud, etc. Around Smithers you can always ride into april. Two different years I have ridden in june and one year guys were riding in july. Avalanche risks INCREASE in the late spring due to temp increases, you need to be MORE carefull.

Based on the snow this year and the forecast how long do you think it will last? And i didn't know that at all! I thought it made perfect sense that the snow would all form together in warmer temperature, i guess there is more then a couple feet of snow so it can't penetrate... Thanks

we will be riding well into june in the kootenays....last ride was june 18th i think last year....had to drive 12km up....but up top there was still 6 feet of snow on averge....as for the avy risks, it definitly goes up when the sun pops out....good idea to hit the bigger stuff earlier in the day when its still set up from the night before....seems farly common for the spring to be a low probability/high consiquence scenerio. meaning its gonna be tough to get something to go, but if it does go...its gonna be a big ugly water saturated river of death that will kill you in a heartbeat....

Yeah, i would want to go to BC rather then down in the states. I've seen the mountains from Calgary when i went to the stampede, but i've never been in them before. Sounds like i might luck out and be able to go more then a couple times Not having much luck at all finding any job opportunities or rooms for rent for that matter.

We ride well into June, just gotta be prepared to drive off pavement for 15+ km to the snowline and you're also going to have a few sections of dirt to sled over usually at the end of the day when you drop elevation.

Just started to melt the last couple of days down in the valley. It's still winter in the hills. I would GUESS there is still 5 or 6 weeks riding left.

Yeah usually the old scags take a Beating in the spring form the gravel you hit on the way out @ the end of the day...you might have uloaded with snow but there's none when coming back down.....We have had around the valley here from Revy to kelowna areas around 2-3 ft fresh in the last week to 2 weeks in the hills.

Sounds awesome, i'm just trying to find people to go with, but no one seems so energetic about going. Unless i can find someone through here to go with haha. our snow here just started to melt couple days ago, but we're suppose to get another 5cm here just to kinda insulate. But judging from the forecast there wont be much snow for very long.

We're suppose to get 5 inches or so here. But i'm jealous. If anyone is willing to show a flatlander around in BC feel free to PM me, i'll head out there for a ride. It's only a 10 hour drive to Banff.

Snowing like a basterd outside of my office window right now.....spring conditions haven't even started yet....haven't had a ride yet that wasn't fresh pow.

I usually sled till mid-May. I lose interest before losing snow usually. But there will easily be enough snow to sled into mid-late june this year.

I'm definately heading out, i don't think i can ever get tired or snowmobiling. Well the only thing i can get tired of is breaking things. Hopefully i can figure out this stupid problem with check engine light randomly going off. How many people are from Nelson? I might head out there.
