I have an 07 d7 and was wondering if I should pull the motor and have it gone through. It has close to 5000 miles and I have never had an issue with it. I wasn't worried about it till the mechanic at the sled shop told me that out of the 12 dragons they sold mine is the only one that hasn't blown up. Mine also has the most miles. Just wondering if I should be worried. Thanks

I would suggest checking the compression on it if you haven't yet. What did you do to make it this far?

Is your mechanic grouping all dragons, including the 800, together or the 700 specifically? I would be surprised if he is talking about the 700's, they have been solid, with plenty of them running over 5,000 miles. I would definately spend a small amount of money and replace the pistons and rings. Why risk it and potentially hurting the rest of the engine with a chunk of metal running through the bottom.

I'd just keep going and going with it, if it ain't broke then don't tear into it and ruin a good thing.

What Marv said makes sense. If it aint broke dont fix it, but 5K is a bit of miles, especially if it has been riddn hard and who knows about how well it was maintained.. Then again if you can do it yourself new rings and piston would be good..but even after that there is no garrantee that you might not have an issue 1500 miles down the road with the new parts.

IF I had to pay someone else to do it, I would check the compression...if thats good then ride it like a rental! If you get another year out of it then you saved some money. It's all a crap shoot anyway you look at it. Now that we didnt help you one bit..good luck with your decision.

youve got me thinking. should I be nervous too. my buddy blew his up last season and I've got just under 5k on my 08 700.

I have seen alot of crank issues with the 07 700's, the outside PTO bearing will start walking off the crank and hit the PTO seal and cause a lean burn down, rebuilt 3 700's last year and plan on doing a few this year. 5k is alot of miles-if it were mine i would do it.

Mechanic was just talking about the 07 -700's.Haven't checked compression yet. Still runs great. I do the maintenance on it regulary and always let it warm up before putting it to the bar. The motor is all stock. But has had a hard life. I'm very rough on equipment. Thanks for the input I think I'm going to freshen up the top and take a chance on the bottom. Although we'll see how the compression is first.
