How durable are turbos?

Are Turbo kits able to handle a beating? I’m concerned that coming down off a cornice or landing the sled on its side would break it? Any input would be great!!

Thanks

This is not quite what you are talking about but the RMSHA guys do beat their sleds hard. The video is a fun one to watch.

Durable, hell ya!

My Aero 66 takes a pounding all season long. I've put thousands of miles on an Aero and never had one fail yet! They do wear out, but you can jump high, land hard and even roll your machine. Yes, it will withstand extreme riding.

Haven't had any issues w/ mine so far, but I do avoid big drops after compressing my back a couple of years ago.

seriously... does this guy know how to ride??? that was a horrible run, why not bank the ruts instead of running down them....

I believe that's Scott Thompson (#44), yes he can ride I have seen in person, usually a little on the loose side though.....young kids anyway...lol.

The turbo's themselves are all very durable, it's typically the mounting of the turbo and the components that create the problem.

You are going to be hard pressed to break a turbo housing etc... and if you do break one you have more problems to worry about (like if both of your legs are still working, or which helicopter company you are going to call to come bring a basket to pick up your parts, sled parts that is)

It's important that the mounting bracket that holds the turbo in place is built well, and also that the charge tubes and inter cooler is mounted properly etc... These are the things that can cause a bad day, it's not that they will break but can come loose and have loss of power etc...

Hope that helps.

Thanks

Here is the Beaver Dash. Look at 7:25 and 8:30 He is only running 9psi on a 800 E-Tec.

Nice

Yah, at 8:30 in the video, Buddy catches some air. Thats fast! One little F-UP and you'd be hurt'n. I'm not into pounding the moguls up a ski hill, but I give them props.

Since everybody is posting vids i want to post one too :becky: Heres my vid, me and a buddy shot this in a day at whistler so please don't judge to hard, there are a few of the same shots over and over and over again :face-icon-small-coo

well if your wondering if a turbo would hold up to what you guys do, then yeah you should not have a problem..... they wont go anywhere usually unless you ram head on into a tree and get your exhaust pushed back and so on......

Another Question, I see these turbos have oil tanks , can they be upside down for any period of time or rolled down a hill (engine not running of course as the sled is usually in a tree well hahaha)

well,up side down you should be turning them off and putting them back upright, but in general if you keep the oil tank probably 3/4 full kind of thing that it should be good for pretty much anything, after all theres guys who do some real tough stuff with their snowmobiles, and no probs at all
