How does my clutching look?

07 M8 with RKT head, RKT full porting, speedwerx y, speedwerx pipe, MBRP can, shift assist by MPM, boondocker box, bdx oil elimination.

I have the orange/white spring in the primary and 670/65 weights (I assume this means they are 65 gram weights). The secondary has an orange spring with part number 0648-774 written on it. I can only see the 0648-7 but I am just assuming the rest is 74. It has the stock helix.

I ride anywhere from 8,000' and above.

Currently the sled runs about 8,050 RPMs but doesn't seem to pull very hard. Basically, I am very disappointed in how it runs.

I am currently looking for an egt gauge so I don't know what the temps currently are.

I am heading out west in two weeks and would like to have a little better clutching setup this time.

Thanks for all your help.

Mike

I think the speedwerx y-pipe is to small for Kelseys porting at least it was on mine. If you have the stock y-pipe compare it to the cylinders and speedwerx pipe. Use the one that matches the cylinders.

I would lose the MBRP can. Have you tried the sled with the stock pipe?

You may want to try 125/340 Speedwerx spring.

would ut be a good idea to just buy speedwerx' clutch kit. it comes with new helix, new weights, and new primary spring. it doesn't say for sure but i think the helix is a 57-52X and i think the weights are 68 grams. the kit is $130 and is for altitude range 5,000 to 9,999.

Have you asked Kelsey about Clutching and set-up for your sled. I know he rides at that elevation and should be able to give some good advice.

He has more than willing to help me get my sled dialed in.

I would stick with the 36 helix at elevation.

Some Questions??

What head is it his 14.5?
sounds like a secondary clutch kit is needed. Cant belive RKT did not sell you one of them.

No egt,s you probably just need tuned what you BD #?

Clutching in primary seams to be on except 65 seam light I have set many of these system up just like it and always ended up with 68 G running 8200 at 8-10,000ft. The only thing I see you need is EGT,s and SP air box for more air flow tell me that's still not stock.

Yeah, it's the 14.5 head.

RKT mentioned selling me a secondary kit but the guy who sold me and installed the shift assist said not to buy that.

Kelsey and Speedwerx both recently told me that I don't need a boondocker box. In two weeks, I'm going to check how the temps are running and readjust the box or eliminate it. The current #s are:

3000 -04 -04 00 00
5000 -04 -04 -04 00
6700 02 02 02 00
7800 02 05 07 00
8100 02 05 08 00

I think I might have 68s in the garage, if not I will get some ordered. You said the sled should run at 8200 RPM but speedwerx installation instructions say it should run at 7700 +/- 100. Is speedwerx # incorrect due to the head and porting of Kelseys.

I have an egt on order. And unfortunately, yes, my air box is still stock. Which air box kit should I get?

Thanks,

Mike

Thats sounds odd

The pipe that is stock is a 7800 RPM pipe speedwerx is a 8100 and with porting also then yes it is now a 8100 RPM engine.

With out the porting I would say yes you do not need box but with porting you need it.

RKT clutch kit is good for about 6 mile an track speed. I do not recommend for a 09-or10 but no engine revers sled I do.

Potered M8 with sp air box.Speedwerx Y and pipe 81-8300 RPMS running 68G
3000 -1 0 0
5000 0 0 -1
6700 0 0 0
7800 0 06 08
8100 02 14 22

ok, so i have the 68 gram weights. so then i have to buy rkt's clutch kit, an egt, and an air box. how about a fuel pressure gauge?

i am definitely buying the egt. but if i can't come up with enough change to buy everything right now, what is more important: the clutch kit or the air box?

also, does the bdx black boxxx work for the intake?

MMSports,

What air box set up do you think works the best?

mmsports,

here's my plan:

install the 68 g weights
buy and install the bd-x intake
buy and install an egt gauge
buy and install a fuel pressure gauge

then i'll save a little coin up and buy the RKT clutch kit for next season.

does that sound like a good plan or should i go with a different combination?

thanks,

mike

Mike,

the black boxx is a loser on that sled, we tried it. If you're willing to exchange 7 or 8 lbs for a touch of HP, and not having to worry about bogging in the deep, then it's still a winner. We have run that sled with no bd box, exactly what you have and no problems. This was one of the things we really liked about the 07 M8.

The intake that attaches to the underside of the plenum seems to do well in conjunction to the SW pipe & Kelsey's porting, slp I think.

I really liked the cutler adj. weights on that sled as well, easy to stay in peak HP when changing riding areas.

I'm just a basic member though Mike, so take that for what it's worth!:face-icon-small-hap

Is the intake you referring to the one that you cut out a portion of the intake on the hood and leave the stock airbox in place? http://www.startinglineproducts.com/catalog.cfm?pageID=detail&view=instruction&catalogID=2&catID=6&productID=980

The slp one is only $55. Does that sound right? I'll look into the cutler adjustables also.

Yeah, I know, I better not take your advice being a basic member and all. But then again so am I!!! :face-icon-small-hap

Take a look at the Cutler and Timbersled intakes as well. The Timbersled works great on my buddies M1000. I have no first hand experience with the CPC, but it looks like a great setup and probably the one I would go with if I wasn't planning on buying a turbo down the road.

In case anyone's curious here's what I'm going to do:

Digatron dual egt gauge
Cutler adjustables 65-75
SLP high flow air intake

I'll do the RKT secondary later.

I'll let you know how it worked in 2 two weeks.

Thanks everybody for your help!!

Mike
