How do you think snowmobiling ranks in your state?

Hey all, I am from Michigan and have a question maybe some of you could shed some light on. Over the weekend some riding buddies of mine were over and we had the tube on in the garage (no snow AGAIN) and this commercial comes on about visiting Colorado in the winter and it showed a variety of winter activities like skiing and boarding but no mention of snowmobiling. Here in Michigan we have a decent ski industry but by far the big business here in the winter is snowmobiles. If you pass 25 rigs on the highway on a Friday 20 of them will be sledders and maybe one would have a ski rack on top. My question is where do you guys think snowmobiling ranks in your state as far as pumping money into the economy? Is skiing the top dog?

People snowmobile in Colorado?

There's no question, the money is with the big resorts, not with guys that spend all their time in the backcountry.

Also sledding is evil, so you wouldn't want to advertise that.

In Alaska we have a few ski resorts and really only one that's "world class". Snowmobiling is worth nearly 50M/yr in total expenditures to the state economy. What's really significant is we have almost no winter tourism--most of that is Japanese couples traveling to Fairbanks trying to conceive babies under the aurora.

Seriously.

No, seriously.

Snowmobiling is king here in the winter. On any given weekend in the season (when there is snow) the small towns in the snow belt are socked with trucks and trailers, in the summer time some of these same towns will be ghost towns. I was just curious as to whether snowmobiling makes that big of an impact in the mountain states.
