How do you tell if a guillotine is aluminum or the newer Titanium?

Well, that's my question. On a 04 800 RMK How do you tell if a guillotine is aluminum or the newer Titanium?

Here is the the kit which says S.S. stainless steel.

KIT-SS GUILLOTINE W/SPRINGS ([800] )
2202838 (replaces 5133775)

Aluminum guillotines were smooth or flat on both the top and bottoms. The SS and TI were not smooth on the tops. They were cast with reliefs and reinforciing "ribs" to reduce the weight

I put titanium in mine. They are a light grey in color. They were a Polaris factory accessory item and were never a factory installed item. Color alone can identify them.

Try scratching it if it's aluminum you can gouge it

Wrong, the aluminum ones were still nicasil coated and it is almost as hard as diamonds. The aluminum ones are lightest, the titanium is twice the weight of the aluminum ones, the stainless steel will be three times the weight of the aluminum ones. The other way is the slight color differences between the metals. it is most likely Nicasil coated aluminum and will look shiny and smooth like chrome. The other two were optional upgrades.

Ti

Do you have a small scale?

Titanium wieghs 60% more than aluminum.

Stainless is 3X the weight of aluminum and about double Titanium
