Great thread guys. I got my 8-4 M-F 'er last summer after graduating college. I make decent money, but like said above, I'm making money for making someone else even more money. That is what employment means.

Reading all this re-enforces the fact that in order to be financially liberated one must do something more than just having a good job. Having things make money for you is the way. Investing, real-estate/rentals, or business ownership is key.

Well put!!

Several of the guys I know well have put many years into working their way into high paying corporate manager positions earning $200,000 to $400,000/yr. They're middle aged, can smell freedom, enjoy sledding and spending $25,000 on a custom sled is a "piece of cake". Many sledders I know are doctors and lawyers knocking down a half million or more/yr. I myself make a decent living, have very little debt, do not have a mortgage and do spend one heck of a lot of money on sledding. It's my passion and love every single minute I'm riding.

Bottom line is work your Asse off. We all have a passion for something. Passion will drive you no matter what. And believe me, people will think you're nuts if they just don't get it. I went without in my younger years cuz I worked and provided to just pay the bills. I see all these kid/teens whatever you call them, riding the latest and greatest that daddy has to offer, and it still bugs me. But guess what? Those will be my kids too. I just hope I can instill the work ethics that I grew up having (by my own forced choice). I just wanted to be one of those kids. So figure out what you want, then Point and Shoot. One life, One chance, Don't blow it!!!!
And if your passion is to ride then ride hard. Just like it might be your last. Don't forget to admire the scenery along the way. It's quite awesome.:sun:

Most of the young-ish guys around here who are young and have nice stuff just sell and/or grow drugs....might wanna look into that

I hope your joking, either that or its the typical small mind mentality "if someone has something better than me they must be cheating or had it given to them". I'm 25, I own my own construction company, how hard I want to work strongly reflects how much I make. Cleared over 200K last year and worked damn hard for every penny of it.;)

Oh yea and I'm not much happier than when I used to work on commercial fishing boats making 35K a year! Money doesnt buy happieness but it might help a little:p

Why would I be joking....do you have any idea how much of that goes on in the kootenays? Not my thing, but someone's making lots off it.

Never said anything about not being satisfied with what I got, nor do I care what you made last year....

1. Education. Even if you don't "learn" anything, having that piece of paper makes a huge difference.
2. Don't settle for a job. Be aggressive and don't stop looking once you're employed.
3. Stay away from drugs/excessive alcohol/etc. That stuff can f*** you and your life up real quick.
4. No kids till you can afford them. I don't want to support your family through welfare.

Work hard, play hard.

never to early to start

If I had a job, I would have one sweet sled! But Im only 13.

not to early to start working...i was mowing lawns for the local old fogies when i was 10 and did that until i could get a "bigger job" at the local truck sale which was 5 years. i still ended up mowing lawns, sand blasting, changing tires on trucks but it was more money and a real 7 to 4 job. :D:beer;

i worked all summer for my first sled-bought a lightly modded 96 polaris xlt, the following summer i worked again all summer to buy my 97 YZ 250 fmf pipe, renthal chain-sprockets, black plastics fmf graphcs, protaper fatty bars. i bought both of these for $1650 a piece, not sayin their 30,000 mod sleds but there are deals out there, im a junior in high school, i own two sleds and my bike. i just got a loan from my farm for my new sled but make $200 a month payments to repay it lol ragin actually had to grab the hood for my sled at the top of el tigre lol i work on the farm making $8/hr, work at are hospital making $8.64, and this summer am gonna also be working on a gas well cleaning rig for $12-$15/hr. all the hard work for hopefully a new truck...basically i save my money, work my arse off, and look for the best deal i can find-i also have a good idea of what i want to do for a career and am willing to bust as$ to get it

I guess when you said "around here" you were reffering to the kootenays, not the snowest crowd, my bad.....I think lol:beer;

look for deals on certain things save your pennies :) i work and save im 20 out of college now own 3 sleds if it's your passion you will find a way to get the money but most people that have 30,000 sleds are also 35+ years old usually and own there own business or are up the ranks in a company

you forgot one! team green. pays very well.

Yeah, but living in fear everyday that you will be going to jail, someone will find your crop, etc etc. I thought you were joking at first too, but if you aren't, I would say that engaging in criminal activities to get further ahead in life is not sound advice.

lol there is a good one^^ but hey...if you date a stripper you would spend less money at the clubs right?lol

There is a poem by Linda Ellis called "The Dash." A good read that fits the discussion on this topic very well. Would post it on here but don't know how the rules are around here. Do a web search and read it if you get time.
