How do I adjust the belt sheave offset on 2009 M8?

I have always been really anal about the clutch offset on my Yamahas. I have the clutch offset tool and I can adjust the offset in my sleep.

I bought an Arctic Cat clutch offest tool and for the life of me, I can't figure out how in the world the offset tool even works, let alone how to adjust the offset between the primary and secondary.

Please help me figure this out.

Thanks

I belive its adjusted by adding or removing shims from between the DD and Secondary.

If its the tool I think your talking about it lines up both fixed sheves, clips in behind the secondary

Thanks.

Yes, I am speaking of the odd shaped bar that slips in behind the secondary (at least that's how they work on Yamahas) that you use to know which way to adjust your secondary in or out with shims to achieve the proper clutch sheave offset.

Yet, this particular bar doesn't seem to fit like i would think it should behind the secondary or the primary.

Surely, this must be a no brainer task and I must just be holding my tongue wrong or something? :beer;

Basically, if you work at a fab shop like I do, you can just get a machinist to cut out a bar like that with an offset of 1.655 inches? And you're good to go? How much is the alignment tool $$$ ?

I think they are like $30. Probably not worth the trouble to fab one. Make sure they get you the right one. There are a few different ones for the DD cats.

I guess if you really want to I can get you some measurements off the bar.

Thanks guys!

Now I see why I couldn't get it to fit. On Cat's the bar goes on the INSIDE of the primary.

On the Yamaha's the bar is placed on the back side of the primary and the secondary. No wonder I couldn't get it to fit.

By the way, my bar looks like the one in the pictures.

This is why these forums are so darn valuable. A picture really does say a thousand words.

Thanks again

the results?

So Frosty,

Because you can now make sense of how to use that tool, please give us the details of how your sled measured up? What kind and how much adjustment (if any) did you need to bring your clutches into alignment? For us guys who have the same sled, wondering if I need to buy the tool, make adjustments etc. thanks.....

Where did you buy the offset tool from?

If you had to adjust it, how did you do it?

i bought mine from the cat dealer.it was like 28-30 dollars.
depending on what it looks like w/ the alignment bar on place, just add or subtract the shims between the secondary and the dd.pretty simple task.
my early m series sleds needed some adjusting.
my 09 didn't need an adjustment, nor did it have any shims to start with.
