how did the one ski race go?

Had an AMAZING time. Don't even have words to describe how well Ground Zero went off.
Wicked
Awesome
Insane
Are a few words that come to mind...

Got to free-ride a few times this week with Mike Mezger, John "junkyard" Dowd, Steve Hatch, Alexander Smith, Bret and Robie Peterson, Derek Mahoney, Shane Donika and more- holey crap was it cool to watch these guys jump on, and pin it off big boulders.

Seeing them come out of a long stretch pinned in 4th and drop into a corner with the bar on the snow at 50mph was just too cool.

As for Ground Zero Race results- I will post tomorrow all the racers and names/places. We will have everything on our website by tomorrow afternoon.

Cailen came with his ported/piped KX500 Explorer kit. I have to give him a million kudos for coming and banging bars with the 2Moto customers. Cailen's a great guy, and a HECK of a good rider. He said he used to flat track race, and you can tell. I hung out with him between heats and got to know him a bit better. He said if I can swing Hawkfest, he'll watch my back :)

We had 4 or 5 different camera/film crews from Maverick, Kick start, local news, Mountain Mod Mania, Metzger Productions, and our 2Moto film crew. No one can or will dispute how big this event was, or what the results were.

Speaking of results, I'll let Cailen post about how the Explorer worked on his big motor. You'll just have to wait till he gets on today. I'm not going to stir this pot... much

I literally have a million photos to go through. Watch our site we'll be adding content constantly, starting tomorrow morning.

goes to show you, a fast rider will be good on almost anything. Metzger Productions was there? did they record any video? That'd be an awesome marketing tool. a snowbike in an FMX video piloted by someone like Metzger

Explorer is a flat tracker

The conversion race was epic. All the pro riders and local talent on the 2motos, I was the only explorer but everyone was nice to me. Felt a little out numbered but it was obvious that the 2 moto conversion worked better on the track, they were eating me up on the holeshot, I was spinning to much with the smaller track lugs and on the corners I was sliding the back end alot, they seemed to hook up better around the corners and down the straights but I did ok in the heat races. I think with another year of tweaking at the Boivin plant we will be back next year with hopefully a more competitve set up. I only had a few hrs on the bike before racing, but I loved the feel the explorer gave. You can have the ski turned the opposite way you are cornering and the back end hanging out like a flat track bike. The day before the race I raced a little down the road with a 2moto and ate him up at high speeds, passing him on the outside sliding was real fun, but we got onto a powder single track and he left me in the dust, I think both kits work better in different conditions, all and all I spent the weekend with the owner of Cyclops Helmet lights and the owner of Moto Cam 360 in a camper and up in the mtns. Both are great riders and fun people to hang out with. Real exciting to see this one ski excitement. Now the question is since those 2motos ripped so hard on that track then surely you with let the hawks race against you next year.

Having a blast together was why we were there.

I don't want to start an argument here, but I am really surprised to think the Hawk would stand a chance on the track with a bike. You should know, because I've not ridden the track with one, but whipping a light bike through the turns vs. a Hawk seems like a different deal. Like I said, you would know here better than me.

So now you've all seen some of the results from the races. I'm not here to state anything but what went down, since I know how uptight this topic gets for a few of you... and I want to come to Hawk Fest and have some fun!

Here goes- Cailen, comment as you see fit. The point here is to keep it real.

Cailen brought his KX 500 fitted Explorer.
Power differences- From Kawasaki-"The KX500's liquid-cooled 499cc two-stroke engine ..., and pumps out nearly 65 horsepower". His bike was ported and piped. He said "450's are never even close to this bike on dirt". Almost all the 2Moto bikes were on stock 450's. (about 48-53 hp). There is likely a 15-25 hp difference between Cailens KX, and the 2Moto 450's.

There were 3 classes, the Legends (pro), the A class, and the B class. Cailen rode awesome and qualified for the B main. In the B main, the KX got lapped by stock 450's and he wisely did not take his last lap solo. He was a great sport.

Off the line, cornering, suspension, and acceleration there was no contest, even with a 20 something horsepower advantage for the KX.

Again, I'm not trying to honk my horn here, but there are big differences. I'm also trying not to say anything bad about anyone else's stuff.

When the track was fresh groomed, smooth and cold, Cailen posted some great lap times. As the track got rougher after each lap, the Explorer struggled more and more.

Now for my opinion- If it's hard snow and you like sliding the rear end flat track style- the Explorer works great. I'm sure there are other places that it's a lot of fun too.

It's a first year product, but the drag on the motor (efficiency) is really limiting. If ADB can find a way to make it efficient, and add suspension- they'll be more competitive.

Now be nice.:)

snow hawk would win with an experanced rider on it! even i can now lay it over hard on trails with the throttal wide open i still cant get over how this thing gos on the hard pack! with the right front ski! a guy like Eric on his 503 would kill!!!

but then comparing them is like apples and oranges! the snow hawk is a whole different beast!!! by the way Blaser, i do like your 2 moto kit! it looks very whell put togather. and as for price, you get what you pay for!

that being said, even if i had my bike still, i would use any extra $$$ i had to buy another hawk. not a bike kit! that being said, i would like to try your 2 moto at hawk fest:D

on a side note! you should look at building a hawk like machine! i like the tube frame idea! but titamium!!!!!! and a wankel singal roter engine! so i can turbo it!

The kx500 could have been spinning the track to much and not getting traction. just a thought. but then again, deeper lugs probably woulf have given it more traction so....

if anyone ever buys Ad Boivins patents, i hope they out source 600cc and 1000cc street bike motors from one of the big four, so that it has a 6 speed manual gearbox with clutch. that'd be AMAZING.

Crashed Twice

Blaser you chump, I didn't get lapped because the explorer robbed all my power, I crashed twice in the main setting me back and making me exausted, maybe you should tell everyone about the fact that I got last in every holeshot and then worked up to better positions, the explorer has a ways to go, but it was not that horrible of a comparison to the 2moto, I wish you guys the best of luck and hope you sell a lot of kits. You certainly diserve to be on top in the conversion one ski world. Still no way you would touch a hawk on that track. Let any one ski snow bike race next year and you could prove me wrong again. I know you would love rubbing it in again.

no worries cailin!!! i am proud of you! you went against all odds and showed up and made it to the B main, there were many that were in the LCQ so looks like you were in the middle of the pack. for the 1st year of the explorer and the 2nd day you ride your explorer kit..... you did fine! as for the hawk,,,your videos say it all! Just remember we are here to stay!

did dowd or metz get on a hawk or werent there any around to share? im not gonna say that a hawk would have whooped on the conversions but it would have been nice to have a hawk in the mix....bigger isnt always better...my lil crf250x made me a waaayyyyy faster rider than my yz426 did in the woods...maybe a fun race at hawkfest is in order since there will be a few conversions flyin around too.

next years GZ race.....Mike get off your wallet and pay RC or McGrath to show up and clean house on 2moto!!! how much did 2moto have to shell out for metz and dowd to show....

I dont get this statement..
I can assure you Cailen is a quality rider.. the legends where in a different class.
The race and legends where brought together by 2moto.They allowed anyone on any conversion to race the trophy classes but the legends race was closed unless you won the A main.. the legends race was a promotion for 2moto it wouldnt make much sense for them to have rc or someone else of that caliber to be racing on another brand.
Now had the legends race been put on by a promoter other than 2moto or Bovin .. that would be a different story..

ok that makes more sense...i wasnt sure on the classes. i thought 2moto brought in the big guys just to beat up on the explorers....
so if rc and mc were on explorers and won the a class, they could have raced the legends and took car of buisness on the explorer?im just kiding with everyone,no hard feelings...i want one next year for my crf250x!!!

Nowhere have I stated you are anything but a phenomenal rider. No disrespect meant there at all. I have also not challenged anything Hawk. I deferred to you there as well. I've never seen one on a track, so I don't know.
For us, it was an insurance and additional cost issue not having Hawks at Ground Zero. If you think about this from a business perspective- why would a company spend a lot of additional money to promote a product that is no longer in production, from a competitor? I think Hawks are great, but we'll have to see how it goes down for GZ 2. Maybe the Hawkers can foot the added cost?

You had the Explorer on a +20 something hp bigger motor. Had you been on a stock 450 you would have ridden it awesome, but how do you think it would have fared? I'm not saying the Explorer is a bad product. There is just a vast difference in performance between the 2.

I like you, really respect what you can do on a Hawk, (and Explorer) and look forward to hanging out again. I was glad I met you.

And you can call me a chump anytime-:)
