How concerned should I be about this?

This happend at the end of last season I guess. Found it this summer. My pinky finger fits through it. I cut the flap off so I wouldn't catch on anything. You can see two of the fiberglass rods are broken. Haven't ridden my sled at all yet this year and i'm thinking I could just keep an eye on this and monitor it. What do you think? This is a CE(challenger extreme) stock track on my '07 M8. It's a 153. Of course i'm thinking about going with a PC but in my current financial situation, i'd be hard for me to afford a new CE for that matter.

Thanks for your help!

I'm not a track expert or anything, but from expirence with running tracks with lugs missing for years I'd just watch it and see what it does.

Get some glue and sew with thick string (maybe fisherman's string?) those cuts up. It doesn't look that bad as fiberglass rod(s) are broken almost at the middle of the track. Glueing and sewing prevents more damage.

You can probably run it just keep an eye on it. I did see a PC track 153" for sale with a skid in the swapmeet for 350. It was in the suspension section.

If two bars are broken I wouldn't run it. BTW the stock track for your 07 is a arctic cat challenger, not the challenger extreme. Big difference.

track damage

:(Cappel, I wouldn't run it if I were you, unless you like to get towed home by your buddies sled, because you will be getting towed! Also , if you keep running it, you will also be changing a set of rails when it catches and pulls the tips of the rails around itself!!LOL!!!!
Sorry for the bearer of bad news!

was the guy selling the powerclaw and wanting to buy the powerclaw? the only one i could find in the suspension section was a WTB. if it is for sale, let me know because I'll snag it up.

change out the track asap. i had a tear like that on an old indy 500. smaller tear at that. well at 75mph she decided to let go. nearly killed myself on the lake and effed up the rails something fierce. i went by the word of a DEALER who said it should be good for the winter. dont chance it. and dont take the advice of someone who says to use fishin line to repair it......geez... the forces on a track of a 800 mountain sled is......nothing short of amazing. you can glue lugs but only lugs not the core of the track.

I'd change it, those tears through the bars dont look good, you could try getting some type of rubber cement or a rubber glue. I tried glueing a track once and I raised the sled up and spun the track and the glue didnt hold. Worth a shot tho...

track

That thing is junk. On the bright side of things, take off stock tracks can be had for pretty cheap these days.

I sold a brand new track to a buddy and the first ride he hit a fencepost and it went throught the track and bent one of the cross shafts on the suspension, that shaft rotated till it was down and literally cut the track nearly in half, more than 1/2 the way around the track all the way through and the rest cut to but not through the cords.

I couldnt believe we made it out, the really crazy thing is he kept going and rode it that way for about 15 rides!!!! then sold the sled with it...AMAZED here

his sled was a tripple piped Viper with tricks so it ran really well..

anyway, I wouldnt ride with him willingly two groups met on the hill and we rode a few times but I was always expecting to take him to the ER.....

something else to think about, another buddy running a strong 800 ripped his track in half and spit it out the back, on a very steep climb, talk about your rocket sled on rails with no brakes.....

spomey

just run it, use ur head when riding...let off a little when using rocks and trees for traction. worst that will happen is it will break. its not like ur up in the midwest trail ridin runnin 80 mph plus thats when tracks see the most stress anyhow

I'm not going to tell you what to do but, here a super small picture (what happened with the picture size, new servers?) of my brand new Camoplast Extreme. A branch from a deadfall found its' way into a track window and you can see the result. The track was new other than that damage and I couldn't afford to buy another track so I used "Goop". They have it at hardware stores and maybe sporting good stores.

I did this repair in the late fall of 2007. It has held up amazingly well and still looks the same today. This is on a modified Yamaha RX-1. I have no doubt the repair will last the life of the track.

Here's a link to the stuff I used. Either use the Industrial E-6000 or the Amazing Goop. After much research I found from the manufacturer that they are basically the same stuff but one is packaged for industrial use.

From the pic it looks like the drive cog will eventually rip the rest of the damaged area out and when this takes place it won't be pretty. And as for towing it home, you better have a tow mat or a big arss piece of plastic to strap under the track surface cause when it spews chunks I don't think towing will be an option as the track most likely won't turn >>>>.
