How about a product review area

I have brought this up in different threads, but what does everyone think?
Something like they have over on Thumpertalk.
You could easily scroll through helmet reviews. Read positives and negatives from users.
Examples would be Skis, boots, bibs, oil, etc?
The negative would surely be a decrease in "what is the best oil threads".
Really though, it might show a decrease in new threads if people could easily find the opinions they were looking for. I would hate for snowest to get boring. I know some have difficulty making the search feature work.
Another unfortunate thread got me thinking about this again. I know most of us like the forum just the way it is, but this may be a nice addition. What do you think? Is this a bad idea?

I agree. This would be a great idea. I always see different threads all over the sight asking opinions and reviewing neew purchases. A specific location would make things alot easier.

Seriously it would be nice. Even if you know what your doing the search can be a pain.

I agree it's a great idea, might help keep a topic on topic Half the time when you do a search on something you end up reading a pissing match 3 pages long about something completley off subject. Don't get me wrong alot of the time it's entertainment but useless if your looking for specifics.

Great idea, maybe have it set up like a poll per item..Like from one to five, and never tried..adding a comment box. That way everybody can give there own input without it getting into a pizzing match . Then peeps can get opinions by polling numbers as well as comments. Good thinking TFMonte..

Good idea..something similar to the consumerreview (www.mtbr.com; www.photographyreview.com) would be great where you could rate it. Would lcut down on searching through threads for days for an answer

And now for the flip side.
The prolbem with a section like that is simple.
How many threads do you read about people that are HAPPY with their products vs unhappy with em.
People don't generally post about good experience. Just bad.
So I think you would end up with a section devoted to winers and people trying to sell stuff.

I have considered a lot of pro's and con's to this. Ollie once again brings up good points. It just seems to work so well on Thumpertalk that I really think it could be a nice addition to Snowest.
I certainly don't want it to be a sales section. We already have that. May have to set it up so it removes our signature lines. The poll idea is similar to what they are doing with a small area to add comments. Good thinking Gusto. You could rank fit, finish, function, overall quality. Give a brief review why you like or dislike the product and your experience.
I'm sure people would still post Klim vs. Hmk. Which I think is fine, I would hate to see a decrease in forum traffic.
What do our moderators think?

Good Idea . but as stated. Ollie does have a good point.
If it was kept to products and not vendors that might help a bit.
I like the format of KTM talk a bit better than Thumper Talk... It seams as though the management at TT uses the product review section to push items they sell..

Great idea, I used the one on MTBR a lot when I was considering a bike. It would help if there were non-biased reviews i.e. editors picks or reviews.
When I'm looking at viewers reviews I mainly focus on the negative ones just to see what it was they didn't like about it.
Someone saying love it, awsome doesn't help me that much.
Someone saying it fell apart in a week, if I see too many of those I move on.
