Hot Cans

I want to be alot quieter on my 900 this year, so it's time to swap from my mbrp can to an slp.
The problem: I have run my sled with the slp can before and it created way too much heat around the chaincase, side panel, and pull start cord.

I went to a hot rod shop, bought some header wrap, and installed it on the body of the slp can. I'll start the season this way... pretty hopeful this is going to solve my problem!

Cool..... Now do you have some venting around that sucker to help it out a bit?

My only concern would be if it affected the pipe temps at all or if that would even matter at all:face-icon-small-con

My sled is about as vented as it can get without going to a fabric hood! You remember how loud my sled was Seth?

As far as melting the chaincase goes... I highly recommend polzinhunters aluminum c/c cover!

Yeah my dirt bike budget got out of hand this summer, and this will be my last year with the 900 as my main ride, so I'm trying to keep things cheap. Kregs gear is nice for sure tho!
If I could justify the cash I would have a Skinz Q on the way!

heat tape

A little heat tape placed on the "louvers" around where your pull handle/start cord is also nice. in the spring they get plenty soft and deviate. I have same can.

the pipe going into the can gets hot enough to melt the dash too. I switched the the Dynoport can because I got tired of the loud noise from the CPI.

Heat tape inside of side panel or vented? Put vent in front of can in a arm well??
Looks empty in pic above.

Yeah that entire side of the inside plastic is heat taped, no suspension well vent, but everything including hood vents. I really see it as an issue with the SLP can being a chamber design.
My biggest concern with this is when the sled gets rolled over onto the exhaust side... I wanted the side panel and vents to be able to deal with some contact with the can without melting.

What I want to know is why in the hell are some of your guys sleds getting so dang hot that they are melting plastic? I've run my sled pretty hard and short of the can actually touching the sidepanel when on its side, I have NEVER had ANY issues warping plastic . The only vents I have are the SLP shock-tower and stirrup vents, nothing else.

That`s exactly my concern. I just had to replace my right side panel vent because of this. There is however a very noticeable difference in heat radiating from the SLP, and MBRP cans.

I had my sled up to temp today aligning my track after installing new rail slides. The header wrap only got warm to the touch which is what I was looking for!

Awesome idea, I'm going to try that.

On warmer days my HPS Can make my console like warm silly putty.
I even have shock tower and stirrup vents and still gets too hot when the ambient temp is above 35-40 or so.

Thanks for updating! :face-icon-small-hap:face-icon-small-coo

Riding in more snow than you..lol. Only time I had an issue was when there was about 60 inches of fresh powder. I plugged all the vents in the hood with snow.
