Went down to local dealer and bought a 2014 163 pro ! Looking forward to riding something new it's been a while as I had a 06 tapex . Anything need to be done or is it truly a pull and go sled? Thanks brad

Ride it and make your own determination....

I came off of a apex and I will never look back... They tried to talk me into a turbo on the apex but I was tired of being wore out at the end of the day. This machine is an absolute delight with its weight performance, ie sidehilling, tree riding, downhill turns ect. The stuff that made you work on the apex and at the end of the day I still have energy not sheer exhaustion.

Enjoy!

First off you are going to have to go get yourself a turbo or a big bore kit as I have heard they are way under powered and you don't want to get left way behind all the old doo revs on the way up the hill. And if you go the turbo route you best go get new pistons, cylinder and crank as you wouldn't want the whole thing blowing apart and leaving you stranded on your first trip out. Kind of embarrassing to have that old doo rev tow you back home.
Then you are going to have to get new shocks and a-arms cause if you are over 90 lbs. they will never stand up, you will have the worst ride ever, just a nightmare.
Then there is the track, once the snow get deeper than the lugs you will be constantly stuck, that ain't fun. So best just get that changed right away.
While you have the track out probably should change out the drive shaft, that is if it still in one piece after you have unloaded it off your truck. I have read that they fall apart anyway and again don't want to get towed home by that old rev. remember.
I suppose when you have the track and shaft out why not just go ahead and through in a new belt drive the one it came with I have been told won't get you around the first curve on the trail. That old rev is just lurking around waiting to tow you home, very embarrassing.
After this you should almost be ready to take her out for a spin, not going to enjoy the ride tho cause it has this terrible flat steering that gives the machine horrible handling charicteristics, you won't be able to get anywhere on this thing.

Or... Or....... You can just do like most of us have ignore most of the crap you will read or hear about these sleds add fuel pull rope and go shred up everything in site, and have the best winter you have ever had on the most funnest sled ever made!

And don't hold your breath waitin for the Ski Doo..it's in the shop for another top end !

As said, I would ride it before running out to buy stuff (other than storage items, etc). There is a lot of great stock stuff on these sleds, and a lot of people do mods "just because," not because it needed.

Having rode a mod apex in the past.....there is NO comparison you will love the pro, just ride it and have fun ..yes I turboed mine but have apro 600 bone stock and even that's better than the apex was to ride all day. My riding partner has a slp stage 4 on his and its about perfect really its a good trouble free kit. IMHO

Slp torque arm. Clean clutch faces and belt. Set suspension for your weight and add gas and oil. Possibly turn up your oil pump now or figure out what your gas : oil consumption is.

Ive read this forum up and down, everyone happiest stock. Your either playing with controller all the time or the cost per hp is not worth it.

couple little accessories

I really like the polaris gauge lifter defroster bag or whatever its called.....super nice....with the mid height windshield....the Nxt Level bag is pretty nice too. the rear bumper is pretty weak, be careful if you tow someone, as it is fragile, there are many companies out ther for this, I am running the www.jtpanels.com

the tied secondary is sweet too

The defrost bag is great. I put raptor shocks on instead of more horsepower on my 13 pro. It eats rough trails For lunch and it improved overall handling in powder.

Sold my Tapex last year and bought a new pro. Absolutely love the sled. Only issue I had is an A arm coming apart at the end of the season. Never had a problem adapting to the sled and really is a blast to throw around.
I don't have buyers remorse but do have sellers remorse.
Miss the Tapex on those certain days and do wish I still had it, along with the pro.

Ya I'm sure I'll miss her to she was a blast in deep powder in the bowls in Bc fun to send your buddies home with there tail between there legs but looking forward to the new one!

you will miss the power, but you will have more fun than ever now,not the best trail machine, but by far the best boondocking sled I have ever owned, love my pro

And don't hold your breath waiting for the Ski Doo..it's in the shop for another top end !
More like While the new Polaris is in the shop at 1100 miles getting a new motor and clutch go ride the ski doo xm that will last more than 1100 miles on a motor. I had both last year ski doo hands down better reliability and easier to ride.

I switched from a Boosted Apex to a Pro late season 2012. The first thing your going to notice how EASY the sled is to ride. Unlike the Apex that wants to fight you all day long and make you work your butt off in the trees and have your shoulders burning at the end of the day the pro somehow knows where you want to go at all times :) Its so easy to ride and does not beat you down. I have a left hand throttle (been using one for about 10 yrs) on my pro and about the only time I use it is to give my throttle thumb a break while cruising down the trail. I never use it off trail anymore because you just don't need it.

The best thing you can buy for the pro is the under hood bag. Works awesome to dry goggles and gloves. Eric

congrats on a wicked choice. they are light, agile and a blast..

just make sure to break in the sled properly, take it relatively easy for the first 100k to get the belts set and it will never give you any issues.

i beat the crap out of mine last year and never had one issue.

cheers.

WORTH EVERY PENNY

Well if you look through all the comments it's pretty obvious you made the right decision. The Pro is hands down the funnest, most capable sled out there. Ya you have one guy that has commented on here that disagrees, but he bleeds skidoo, so he doesn't know any better, haha. All brands have their own issues, but comparing the pros & cons of all of them.........you wont regret your decision. Keep it stock for awhile and see how it goes. If money isn't too tight, there's always a few things to throw at it that make it even funner to ride.

PS, if you love boondocking, sidehilling, and getting technical, the Pro absolutely IS the easiest/best sled out there for that. (not the XM)
