hood hold downs

just wondering what some people are using for their extra hood hold downs since the stock ones on sleds usually suck:beer;

Pam on here snowxtc, used to offer a very nice set. I don't know if she is still selling them, but I bought some from her to have in reserve a couple of years ago.

We are still selling them. We offer them with either a Ski-doo strap or Yamaha strap. The Yamaha are the most popular. What makes ours stand out are the hooks. Let me see if I can get a pic uploaded here. They are $15.00 a set (or show price, two for $28.00) and $5.00 shipping for up to three sets. (I will go $40 on three sets). Note: They all come with the 1 inch fender washers for the hood.

Either PM me or email me at XTCRacing@XTCRacing.com

Thanx
Pam

Me too. I have 4 extra sets I think. I havent even broken a strap. Clean looking, and simple. I have a set near the middle of my hoods on all 3 of my sleds as an extra hold down on the stock hoods.

Those are nice and functional for the back part of the hood and may work on other models besides an Arctic Cat. Not sure I would want the hook hanging off my belly pan for additional straps or if they would work with aftermarket hoods. I and plenty of others have been using ours with regular and aftermarket hoods for over 5 years. They have out lasted my hoods. And at $15.00 a set, you can't beat it. Clean, functional, and just a tad of bling. All stainless steel hardware.

Since I ride in the trees a lot, I was concerned about hooks on the side of the hood getting snagged by trees or coming loose like OEM's do when the sled starts rolling downhill.

Maybe that is not an issue, but what I did instead was take 3 rubber bungee straps, one short 12-18" and two longer like 20-24". Basically, once installed they form a Y on the hood, with the lower part of the Y pointing forward.

Short strap goes from front bumper up middle of hood.
Longer straps go from each footwell area, up over back of hood, and back to the short strap.

All hooks removed except the two rear hooks by the footwells. The front connection to bumper can be made with rope, heavy wire, etc. The middle connection (Y) can be done the same way. For the middle on mine I formed a small triangle out of a heavy coathanger.

Cost - under $5

I have Snowxtc's straps on my mountain fit hood and I love em. Glad to hear you are still selling them, I am going to need some more for a home brew mesh hood soon.

Anytime Montana, just PM or email and we can get them off to you.

As for the concern about trees, I have yet to break the hooks off in the trees. I have bent them, but not broke them off. The hooks are on the belly pan and the straps are on the hood. I do not like the straps flopping around when I ride without the hood; it is tacky looking. I can also prove with plenty of receipts, that I have had several encounters with trees; I have replaced the hood rails numerous times.

I really like SnowXTC design... It has much less of a chance of coming off in a roll over or tree bashing...

Great price... You'll be seeing an order from me!
