Honest opinions on the Fx Nytro XTX

Hey guys. I'm a new subscriber to snowest. I love this site! I currently have an '09 Yamaha Phazer and I'm pretty mind set on trading up to a Nytro. I like the thought of the 144 track, hense wanting the XTX. I'm open for thoughts on this decision. Sorry Cat riders, i'm Yamaha only! :D Thank you for your input. :)

You will get a lot of opinions, but that seems to be what you asked for. Any reason you are stuck on Yamaha? I was always a huge fan of Yamaha but they have become heavy and slow. That is unless you can fork out some money for a turbo/supercharger. Then, I think that would be a killer sled. I've ridden the Nitro, and I'm not impressed stock. It's a little heavy up front. It sounds great and the torque is very different from a smoker. It really depends what kind of rider you are. If you are into the steep and deep, you will need more power. If you are a trail rider with the occasional powder runs that is a great sled.

I have a 4-stroke dirt bike, but the snowmobile industry has not been able to bring down the weight like the dirt bike side has.

I think the XTX is an excellent choice. Good cross over sled. I see your from Iowa. For that part of the country and maybe an ocassional trip out West I think you'll be very happy with the sled. I have an '09 Nytro MTX and really loved the sled in stock form and did just fine in the Mountains, however, I'm a bit of a power nut and put a turbo on it. Did it absolutely need it, no. But I like to climb big stuff and for that it was necessary. I also have an '08 Doo XPX 154" which is also a good sled but when that one goes I will definately look at another Nytro or whatever Yamaha comes out with in 2011. I just love the fourstrokes and am sold on their performance and reliability.

The xtx looks like a nice sled. Just keep in mind that by today's standards it is essentially a trail sled. If deep powder and climbing is your thing the mtx would be a better road to go down. I am curious just how much of a difference there is in the turning radius between the 153 and 144.

I'm sorry, I missed that it was the xtx. I was thinking of the mtx and that's why I evaluated on powder. Like I said, I think Yamaha makes a great trail sled with crossover potential. I just think that they lack in the climbing ability.

That sled is really a trail sled, sure you can pop off trail and play a bit, but it is not a good off trail sled due to its weight. You can go over to www.johndee.com as John owned one last season and sold it for another M series.

If you are a trail guy who occasionally likes to venture off trail down a logging road or something this is a decent sled. I would definitely not compare this in anyway to a Arctic Cat Crosssfire or any other 2 stroke hybrid sled.

i rode with a guy in the black hills last year that had an xtx. for the black hills it was a good sled but if he took it to wyoming he would have problems. if you buy one and like riding deep pow and a little climbing (since a 144 isnt capable of huge climbs) i would put wider skis up front and a deeper lug track. if you want to ride around town since you live in iowa and a couple trips to the mountains and like to ride trail and go play a little bit stock form would be just fine.

Why are you stuck on Yamaha? Just curious, I think they make some good 4-stroke motors that are very reliable. Have you thought about a 2 smoke?

Thank you for all of your input. Calvin42, you nailed it. I live in Iowa where ditch hopping is what we do. Once a year we go out west to Breckenridge/Copper Colorado and Larime Wyoming. I want a sled that's best of both worlds. I'm a yamaha guy because that's all we own. Between 2 motorcycles, a Rhino, a boat motor, another 4wheeler, and my sled, I'm hooked! I want to stay 4 stroke for the reliability, and I like having EFI. Last winter was my first experience sledding, so that's all the experience I have!
