It's got to be better....it's after-market! Manufactures never make as good of stuff as the after-market boys do, you gotta read up!
drmiller100 - Doug Miller says
The Holz suspension (actually originally designed by Jack Struthers almost 15 years ago) uses a coil over in the back of the skid.
A traditional scissor pushes down on the suspension in 3 places - front shock, front of rear scissors, and back of rear scissors.
Struthers Coil Over pushes 95 percent down on one place - the very back of the skid.
This does a few things. It makes it so the front of the skid is free to tip up, and climb on top of the snow. This makes the skid climb through deep snow much better.
Another thing, all the force on the back of the skid does is keeping the sled from tipping back when climbing a steep hill - the spring has the best leverage to keep the snowmobile from rearing back too far.
Another thing this does is free the suspension to move more. It makes the suspension more dynamic - giving more lift at slow speeds on throttle and making the sled feel lighter then it is.
I sent a message off to Doug Miller... he worked with Struthers a lot during the development of the original Holz suspension. This is what he sent me.
