Hole in cylinder above exhaust?

I had my cylinder redone for my M 1000 and noticed that the cylinders they sent back to me one has the small hole above the exhaust port and the other one is gone. I think they must have plated over it not sure. I'm wondering what this hole is for and will it matter if one cylinder has it and the other doesnt.

The hole is there for decompression when starting the engine, thats what I was told when Linderman ported mine. As for how it will affect you having one and not the other I really dont know. Check with a good engine guy like Brent to save yourself a headache later.

Yes the hole is for decompression as MR MOOSE said. I would check with the company that did your cylinders and make sure you got your cylinders back and not someone elses because some of the early years didn't have the decompression hole.

Hope this helps if there is anything else I can help you with let me know.
