Hole in case

the fix-it guy

My friend had a piston break the skirt off on a 800 pro 2012, punching a hole in the lower case. Does anybody weld the holes shut? Is buying a new bottom case the best option? Thoughts or experience.

IndyDan (in your neck of the woods even!) fixes them as well as doing cylinder skirt repairs/re-enforcements, etc...

Go Indy Specialties he can just trade you motors and have you back up in running in the shortest amount of time, for the least $$

Go see Dan like they say, he'll have a fix for ya. I'm sure he'll have several routes you can go...

On my 11,mine was warranty(thanks Polaris 4 year snowcheck warranty)

Indy Dan seems like the go to guy if you don't Polaris paying for it.As others have said quick turnaround and he stands behind his product.

JW Snoweld in Cambridge, MN also does it. I've had a couple done for people and my 860 has a set of welded cases.

Here's his web site also, pretty basic, but it has his contact info.

You might also think of upgrading to a 2013+ cylinder (thicker skirts) and then have your 2012 cases bored to fit the 2013+ with very, very tight skirt to case clearance's. I have a 2013+ (3022449) just back from new nikasil if interested.

He decided to go with Indy Dan.

Have your friend check his reeds, I was getting my new indydan engine ready last night and one of the reeds was damage when the skirt broke off. Also if possible have him send his clutch to Dan so it's ready to go. I didn't and wished I had.

I second the reeds.

I saw this on my dads 12 switchback a few seasons ago. Skirt broke, punched a hole in the case. Found the reeds to be more or less non existent on re assembly.

You tell me, was it the reeds fault, was it a poor cylinder skirt? Was it something else.

I figure it's best not to chance it being a repeat offender of the reeds were to blame
