Holdover 2007 M1000 ?s/Issues?

My Dad is looking at purchasing a holdover 2007 M1000. What issues should I tell him to worry about?

What mods/changes should we make right away to prep for mountain riding this next year?

Clutching?

Suspension?

The main thing is to make sure it has a 3 cam clutch on it... If it has a 4 cam, I would make the dealer swap it out before he takes it home.
Other than that, ride it for 200 miles, then completely dissasemble the DD, clean and inspect it.
You should be good to go after that.
Most likely the 09 reflash and updates will be done, if not, get that done also.
For 6-9k, stock clucthing works pretty good with an 046 belt.
Depending on how much he wants to spend on clutching, do a minimum of a shift assist bearing in the secondary, or an aftermarket torsional kit.

true dat!, i do this maintence cycle every 400 or so miles just for fun, and i remove the funk and replace those stupid brass washers, its easy if you have spare parts:o

I think some of the 07 m1000 had recalls on the motor? Crank bearings I think??? I thought I read something on hear about the 07 program made more power (RK TEK???).

i havnt heard of any crank bearing failures but i have heard of some PTO side crank ends where the clutch goes on breaking off ,, this was early like in winter 07 08 , i dont think they changed anything ie recalls but i remeber reading about a few ,, have not heard boo about it in the last year or so though

My friend had a crank bearing failure in his 07 M1000 but Cat Care covered it.

Thought it was the lower end rod bearing that cat problems with? For the money, swap out the factory dd and install the dd lite drive. You lose reverse but just about eliminate any gear problems with the mechanical reverse gear box...

Lots of PTO crank breaks!

Lots as in 5 out of 10 or 5 out of 10,000?

I have heard of a few, mostly from this web site.

Like anything. You are going to hear 75% more negative or even questions on this web site than you will the "Hey, awesome sled never had an issue".

IMO, you want to keep an eye on the diamond drive and like killerk said if they want to move the sled have them put the three arm clutch on it.

If you want to do any mods to the motor, pipe, can, intake, y pipe. Invest in a set of EGT guages and save yourself the headache. And then get the Boondocker EFI control box.

I know I wouldn't run the sled off the floor without guages of some sort, EGT or AF. Make them throw on a set of these also. (Koso's work good for me)

It's my belief most of the crank problems were related to the 4 arm primary clutch. I had mine balanced by SLP [4-arm] with no troubles. These are good sleds. They are heavier as stated above than the 08-10 sleds however.

My understanding is the 4 cam clutch was causing crank failures... Especially if people staggered weights.
Good sled... If you can get a good deal on an 08-09, even better.(lighter)

I would look into the float conversion from AC for the rear skid. That will lighten it up a tad and transfer weight better. Get the clutching dialed in with either a shift assist or like was stated switch to a torsional set up (rktek or the like...) Side panel vents on that sled are a must! Then I would have him ride it to find the likes and dislikes and then start changing other stuff.

Here's my wife on her 2007 M1000, she weighs a whole lot less that the average rider and seems to get around OK? :D

These guys have you on the right track for the most part. Must dos:
-skid conversion to float or aftermarket
-carefully protect every wire and cable, rerouting to avoid chafing and tight corners (power valve cables!!!)
-can
-3 post clutch
-faithful maintenance

Good luck, they are a tractor on the hill, not much will go higher in stock form!

All of the above are definite improvements. Here's a list of what I've done to my '07 M-1000....
3 post primary w/cutler adjustable weights, shift assist for secondary
speedwerx cold air intake and tunnel dump muffler
diamond-s mesh hood
2coolair vents
cpc snow eliminators
HOLZ FLOAT rear suspension
162" attack 20 track
SKID seat
Black Diamond pro lite drive(57/63) and rear bumper
'09 rear cooler
2" bar riser
I had the crank bearing failure around 300 miles. Warranty took care of it. Towards the end of this season I had a ring break. So now I have new pistons and one replated cylinder. Haven't put the sled on a scale, but on the snow it feels a hundred lbs. lighter!

Still running 4 tower clutch 2500 miles(all hard) no problems and I pay half the price for a belt.Run m 8 gears if you like the steep and deep.07 m-1000 does not transfer weight /the skis stay down, not so bad on the hill.

New Tractor

We picked up the sled on Saturday, just under $7000 out the door.

All updates were done to the sled including venting and covering wires. It does have four post clutch.

Can't wait to ride this beast.
