HMK Shovels: problems with saw!

Has anyone had problems with there saw that pulls out of the handle?? has anyone cut themselves when pulling out the shovel? (raise hand)

anyway, the saw is too weak for cutting alders. even on the small alders the saw blade bends. Its also very easy, for the saw blade to spin when cutting! I have cut myself more than once when pulling out the saw...each time i tried a different technique but, it still got me!

dont get me wrong i like the idea of having a saw in the handle but, the saw is a little too weak! and it needs to come with a cover! HMK makes great products and so far this is the only thing i have not been fond about.

ride safe!

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but I thought the saw was just to cut the snow when checking the avalanche conditions. It is not a wood saw by any means. It is only used when cutting the blocks of snow for avy info.

There are two saws from HMK one for snow, one for wood. I have the wood one, have pulled it out many times w/o cutting myself (knock on wood) but never had to cut anything with it yet.

had to use my generic ;) folding saw to cut the tie rods once..
could NOT get nuts off, wrecked sled.. needed to get OFF of the mountain,
any way

NO, it was not like butter.. but impressive

I sent a testimonial in, trying to get a new blade..
I did get a nice note.. :(
I guess if they sent a new blade, I would name the MFG ;)

so I am sure your flesh stands little chance against even the snow blade.

hey ak...I use an SOS saw..is in the handle but it cuts when you pull rather then push..never had a problem with it cutting me either.got mine from go pro in anchorage.

i noticed the same problem. what i do is place it on the log. Slowely cut a groove. and work ur way into it. the saw works great for me. but i carry a back up for those big nasty stumps.
