News said he was on the south side on Squawk Glacier and was trapped by a boulder. Sad to hear. Any of us there to witness or assist?

i was up saturday, and from what i heard, they were camped out fri. pm and he went to go use the facilities and didnt come back. apparently a big boulder fell on him. when we left around 4pm, i think they were still trying to figure out how to get him out from under it.too sad.....

Pretty sad deal...imagine being his climbing partners having to find him. Talked to S&R and he said that there were 2 boulders on the guy, a large one and a small one...and they couldn't move either. Might be his final resting place. S&R vehicles were still there when we left the mountain around 5pm.

Horrible way to go, but at least he died doing something he loved. RIP.

This was a hiker who was with a class out of Seattle. They had made their latrine under an unstable wall of rock. It was apparently his number.

The S&R snowmobilers from the Glacier Cruiser club worked all day Saturday and Sunday with Mountain Rescue from Bellingham. We were able to move the small rock but the subject was partially trapped under the large bolder as well. As of 3 o'clock Sunday he was still not extracted.

I will update more when I find out.

Remember that this is a great PR opportunity to remind hikers/cross country skiers that snowmobilers help out when there is a need!

They got the guy out around 5pm today. All gear is down as well. I feel bad for the guy and his buddies. Eddy, papa bear and me ferried some of the guys down from there at the end of the day to the snocat that they had, and then down to the parking.

There we tons of hikers up there, I couldn't believe it.

:beer;:beer; to you guys for stepping up and lending a hand.

how did they end up moving the boulder?

Condolences to his family and friends.
We were up there today and didn't know that it had happened. Saw lots of hikers at various places on the mountian, but didn't realize there was a problem.

I know we asked S&R on Saturday morning if they needed assistance but they were unsure, but felt they had enough people at that time. I'm glad they were able to extract the body and that you all were able to help in some way on Sunday.

It's always terrible when these things happen. Be careful everyone and make sure you keep your eye peeled up there. The mountain is always active with Ice and rock fall, especially this time of year during the big thaw.

My condolences go out to the family and the climbers that were on the team.

Couldn't agree more! Anytime there is a empty PowerAde bottle or snicker bar rapper on the side of a trail snowmobiles are blamed. Skiers want to block us off out of all natural areas so it stays pristine. Skiers litter just as much as we do and who do the call for when they fall down and get hurt? Snowmobiers are the only ones who can help because there is no were to land a helicopter because there are no CLEAR CUTS....

anyways.... My condolences to familes and friends. Its very sad to hear about, talk about bad timing/luck. Next time some one makes fun of you for holding it in.... just tell em this story.
