HiFax Wear

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last year I read a article about removing the forward boggie wheel to save on weight on a 02MM 700. I then put ice scratchers in its place using these holes. But since doing this it appears that I have worn through the Hifax at the forward bend of the skid. Has anyone else done this mod and encountered this problem.

Since I have to replace this now what are my options on Hifax's.
1. Stock Hifax
2. Hiperfax from MPI (anyone use this, Pros vs Cons). This seems to be very costly compared to the stock ones.
3. ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Put the new hyfax on, put the wheels back on and forget about it. Cheap and simple.

So what kind of hifax should I use. The stock ones that melt at 300 degrees, hyperfax that melts at 750 degrees or ones that are called super slippery (graphite/teflon) formulation from mcb performance.

price is the deal maker or braker i have had stock slider last for 2000 miles and sold the sled is the price diff.enough to justify your call and yes put the wheels back on i made that mistake once last year 150 miles latter done slids

I know that the younger guys [I am 69] think the skids look cool without idlers but I learned that I could go through a set of hifax in less than a month on the earlier RMKs. After scratching my head a lot and ruining a set of rails I started adding 2 new set of wheels to each skid, one inside , one outside and replacing the bearings every year. I can now run a standard set of hifax 4000 miles easy without showing much wear. I use 5/16 bolts clipped in to steel plates on the tails of the skis for scratchers. 17 cents each. No more problems in years.

I would not recamend the grafite slippery slides, I got 2 sets from shadetree powersports and they both lasted about 500 miles. If money is not an issue then the hyperfax would be sweet I have heard good things about them. Now I only run stock ones and they are just fine for the money.

I've had sled weight-loss on my brain this year and decided to strip the skid of all wheels but I put on the Hyperfax and scratchers. Been riding every weekend and they show very minimal wear. This is on an Apex with Holz skid.
