hifax wear with idler removal?

Just wondering how much more the hifax would wear if you took off the front idler wheels on an M? I see a bunch of sleds that have gotten rid of them; do most people just take em off or do they run a delete kit?

For those of you who have done either how is the hifax wear, noticeable or not?

I'm not sure how the wear is after taking them off, but I'm going to try it this year. When I replaced my hyfax this summer I found it actually looked like they wore really bad right after the wheels, almost like the wheel was causing irregular wear on them. I'll see this winter I guess.

idler wheels

I'm going to get rid of my front outboard idler wheels and run the BDX wheel kit. This is the one that has 2 little wheels that mount inside the rails and on the shaft that the front shock mounts to. I think this kit is also supposed to eliminate the famous vibration from the lugs on the inside of the track rub on the shaft on the '05 and '06 M sleds. Probably run scratchers on the outside of the rails in the holes where the idlers used to be.

Depends on what type of riding your doing. My friend ran his in Wyoming and there wasn't much wear at all. When he brought it back and rode in the prairies where we didn't have much snow they wore really badly and he had ice scratchers on too. So if you're doing a fair bit of trail riding I would leave them on. I took mine off my mountain sled and am running the BDX two wheel kit and ice scratchers where the front wheels were.

my buddie pulled his front idlers after 2 seasons, needed new hifaxes in just a few rides, really wears hard where the bend in the rails are.

Idlers

Ive removed them on three m sleds 1 m7 and 2 m1000, had 600 on m7, 400 on 07 1000, and 600 on 08 m1000, 08 front mount was in the bottom hole and i didnt have a problem on any of them, but id suggest hyperfax and scratcher if your worried about it. My .02

AND I DID USE MY OWN DELETE KIT, YOU UN BOLT THEM AND THROW THEM OVER YOUR SHOULDER, IF YOU WOULD LIKE A PICTORAL DIAGRAM OF HOW TO DO THIS ILL SELL YOU A COPY FOR $5.95

LOL. You should sell it on Ebay.

Well I try to do as little trail riding as possible and have scratchers...might give this a try just for the hell of it.

I've run without mine for two seasons with scratchers in the same location. Replaced hyfax this year. Seems to be OK, but I don't hit much trail. Bet they'd fry quickly if you ran them to melting temps. AC hyfax are cheap compared to other brands and only take ~10 minutes to replace if not cold ...

Last 3 sleds have run without them. Just drop the scratchers down if the snow on the trail in is hard/icy and never had a problem yet. All mountain riding but I have pretty short rides in too.
