Hey Diabetics, How do you react to alcohol?

I've drank alcohol on the weekends for years or since I was 18. Literaly, if I drink more than 1 beer toward evening, I'm good for a max of 4hrs sleep. I'll wake up in the night or the following morning with my heart racing like I've just ran a marathon. The heart race will continue throughout most of the next day or like 3 in the afternoon when my body is about ready to crash to sleep. I've tried different beer/liquor/wine, and no matter what, it all has the same reaction with me.

I have had a couple tests for diabetes, but they did come negative. But tests are always everything......I am a small framed person.

I know from the older I get the less I drink, but it's always nice to tear it up once in the while with the boys or on the weekends at the bar.

I have had a couple tests for diabetes, but they did come negative.

Most medical clinics do a test where they tell you not to eat anything past midnight prior to your appointment. At the appointment the next day they prick your finger and check your "standing" blood sugars. This test reflects the prior 12-24 hours.

A better more thorough test for diabetes is called an "A1C". The A1C requires a blood draw, but it gives you an accurate average of your total blood sugars for the prior 3 months. Might be worth checking into.

Maybe you should start smokin dope.........Just kidding. Good luck man. EW

I have symptoms similar to hypoglycemia, but alcohol doesn't bother me provided I eat something with it. I get run down and sick if I drink on an empty stomach (I know most people do, but it hits me fast, hard, and I'm out before anyone else) If I don't carry candy bars with me on the golf course, I can pass out, so that is pretty serious considering I could be driving a golf cart (not worried about injury, but if I crashed, those damned things are expensive to replace)

So yea, I'm not exactly diabetic, but there you go.

The carbohydrates in the beer will break down into simple sugars.... blood glucose level goes way up.

I'm a type one and never had anything close to that after having a few drinks. Usually the opposite high sugars makes diabetics tired and feeling like crap. Low sugars will give you the jitters and make it hard to concentrate. Hope that helps.

one of my good friends Ryan is a hard core diabetic, the kind that's not spose to drink any alcohol. yet he still does, and in large doses i might add. occasionally his blood sugar gets so f'd up that he blacks out and goes on a rampage that usually ends in 3 or 4 of us holding him down and making him drink some juice tell he comes to. Its pretty scary and hes knocking years at a time off his life but damn if he aint fun to party with!
