I just got done putting a new top end on my buddys rev "SHR 840" and all was going good with the break-in started on the third pull after having the motor completely out and was letting it warm up to about 100 Degrees and killing it did that about 6-7 times!!!! and this morning went to run it alittle!! it started right up and was running for about 3 min when all of the sudden it lost power made a squilling noise almost like a whistle and died and would not start again any ideas on where to start!!!!!

Is your coolant level still good? If not you may have overheated and ....will get a second chance at rebuilding that top end. If not that then lack of oil for some reason or wrist pin or ring. Pull the plugs and look inside. Good luck this time and with the newer rebuild. Hope its none of the above

Ya!!!! i hope it not something bad coolant leval good it has a oil delete kit and ran a heavy oil+gas mix!! pull it apart tommorw and see whats going on??:censored:

A couple of questions:

1. Why was the 840 top end put on? Was there and engine failure before the upgrade?
2. How many miles on the lower end?
3. When it died, could the motor be pulled over and felt normal or was it locked up?

I had a very similar prob. last season, took forever to figure out. Ended up 1 of my O-rings between Dome/Head was bad. got a new set from Napa and solved the prob.( I thought doing heat cycles like that wasn't good?) It prob. died because that plug fouled.

Is it just me or does Pic 4 make it look like the exhaust side of the piston is seeing some serious heat?
But yeah anytime a piston top is bright clean check the head gasket/o-rings.
