Help with upgrades for 2008 Summit XP

Can anyone tell me what upgrades the dealer is suppose to do on the 2008 Summit?

I have a dealer who isn't to interested in contacting customers when these upgrades are available.:(

Grips, Gas tank on some 154's, Belt and some dealers will put a 19 tooth gear in for you.

Have they found any real cure for the belt problems, the new 377 is only a band aide, whats really causing the wear, engine allignment?

My buddy shredded a blet not to long ago and it's got me really worried about my sled.

I'm not exactly the type of guy to just start tearing into a sled looking for a problem, especially if clutching is involved, but if I know the problem, my dealer, who is a great guy will look into it.

Tell them you want the handwarmer update and the sled regeared to at least 21 top since you have a 146, if you ride the steep and deep a bunch 19 wouldn't hurt. Also have them put the weight back in the pins on your clutch, start with a 12mm and an 8mm, if you're going to have them go to 19 top gear have them put a 25mm in the pin to fill it. This should all be covered by BRP. If you have any blown 166 belts, they are covered by BRP also.

I just got my sled back from getting its updates and there were also some I hadnt heard about! Chaincase bolts, re locktightting the Y pipe bolts, replacing 2 of the bolts that hold on the rear bumper (the old ones can rub on the track edges) The of coarse the obvious Grips, Gauge panal, Mine was re-geared to a 19t with 18.9 grams of weight. Seems to really pull harder through the midrange.
I called several dealers wanting to get the updates, seems I was black balled from buying my XP out of state. I took mine to Steel Dreams, They were by far the best to deal with. Thanks Guys!

Some important ones are;

  • Cut your secondary Cog
  • Throttle adjustment (Oil usage)
  • Tighten you "Y" pipe bolts
  • Ensure your belt deflection is correct.
  • 377 Belt
  • Align clutches
  • Remove the clutch guard/tool box
  • With the 19 gear, you should have the stock 12mm PLUS a 8mm pin at your elevation (6000 - 8000')
  • Cover/Vent the top hole above the muffler
  • Cover/vent the nose piece that' s full of holes (Stoopid BRP!)
  • Have your dealer doo the Driveshaft weld (Its warrantied)
  • An airbox mod (there are several)
  • Put your limiter strap in the last bolt hole
Good Luck! They are a great sled! But they are a "Tuners" Sled!

When you say last hole, do you mean all the way out, or suck the strap all the way in? - Thanks

Too Bad I'm not much of a "tuner". What's the advantage of putting the limiter strap in the last hole? I assume you mean making it shorter?

How do I check belt deflection?

Thanks, Nick

Yours is all done full on mod, er "Customized", cept the HPS can, then you are dun and ready to Rip@!!

The limiter strap needs to be in the longest (Let it all the way out), hole.

Sounds like Slim nailed them all. I haven't messed with the limiter strap. What would I accomplish by putting it on the last hole?

Putting the limit strap in the longest hole will make the steering effort less which results in less ski pressure.

changed mine as soon as I got it.

I got to copy that list!!! good list of upgrades

What is "cut your secondary Cog" mean? Old polaris guy here, just got the awesome XP!
