Help with tightening track on 670, ratcheting?

Forgive me, I have no experience tinkering or working on things, but feel its about time I start figuring some stuff out.

So I believe my track is ratcheting. It is only doing it when I really get on the throttle in a lot of powder or climbing in powder, but it did it really bad last time I was out (there was 2-3 feet of fresh powder). So can someone explain to me in detail how to tighten it. I know there is a bolt I need to turn to move the axle back. But, I am having a hard time with it. The bolt head is in a groove on a bracket(?) and hard to get a wrench around. I was able to loosen it and see the track was looser, and then re-tighten it to where it was. But I think I need to go further with it to make it tighter and it is harder to turn especially since I can't get my wrench all the way on it. Do I need to loosen the nut in front of it, then tighten after adjusting? I can't seem to get to that either with the wheel in the way. What am I missing?

Please help...:confused: :o

It is a 97 Summit 670 with 144 x 16 track

First you need to loosen the bolts on your axle, (outside rear idler wheels). Then tighten your tension adjusting bolts. Check for alignment. Then retighten the bolts in the axle.:beer;

Thanks icedog, I think I got it. It seemed I had to also loosen 2 bolts on the little bracket where the nut for the adjusting bolt is so the bolt would come out of the groove enough to get my wrench around it, does that sound right? Did that make sense?

So how will I know if I tightened it too much, what can I watch for?

Also, does it sound like it is the track ratcheting and not the chain? Can you tell the difference?

I had a 97 summit that had a 2 inch track and was ratcheting some guy told me i was suppose to drop and roll the chaincase so they would fit and it would solve this problem. I am not sure if that is what it is but is yours dropped and rolled? also does it have different drivers?

My guess would also be the 2" track is hitting the tunnel. My 99 X only has a 1.75 track and it works great. If you don't want to drop/roll or install smaller drivers you could always trim 1/4" off the track.
