help with electrical diagnosis

08 dragon 800....All original electrical parts....this actually happened last year....started sled in morning, fired up and ran fine but didn't have any headlights,MFD, aftermarket gauges(EGT,fuel controller box). I turned sled of after a few moments then started it again, started and ran fine again but still no accessories. Turned sled off again and then restarted, ran fine but still no acc. Figured this time I'd let it warm up so i didn't have to work on a cold engine. I had the hood open and after a minute or so of idling I was looking at the ground in front of the sled when all of a sudden the lights came on and all the gauges worked. This only happened this one time(rest of the season never happened again). This season hasn't started for me yet but I'm thinking it may happen again sometime so I'm just looking for some advice if it does. Is there some type of relay that may have not been working to control the accessories, then finally decided to switch? Thanks.

Don't know if this is your issue or not but mine acted exactly like that and it turned out to be a faulty wire from aftermarket handle bar install. The wiring from the hand warmers was touching the bare bar. It actually shorted out and then melted the steering bushing clear down under the motor. The fix was SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS and the motor had to get pulled! I called absolute BS when the shop said what they found...but I guess that has happened and that was the common denominator.

We changed CDI, messed with all the wires, double checked any bends, and finally got it to respond (headlights and pod blank out) by turning the warmers on and off...then wiggling those wires. Continued to ride it thinking no big deal as I don't look at the pod gauge and don't need a headlight. Bam 2 days later it's got flop in the steering like the linkage had come out.

Hope this helps and I hope it's not too late

Thank F-Bomb, I'll look into it. Like i said it only did it once and haven't had any trouble since. I did change out my grips and warmers this off season. I didn't notice any problem with the stock warmers at that time. It's interesting you mention the steering post issue because i have notice some increased play in mine. I going to look into that for sure. Thanks again for the lead.
