Help with Drive Shaft Removal on M-Series

Swapping tracks out and can't get the drive shaft out. The splined part of the shaft on the break side is stuck in the break assembley. I have beat on it for half an hour and can't get it loose. Anybody have any tricks or had the same issue. I have the rotor off and the break torn all the way down but still can't get it out. Please help cause I am gettin piss and might beak somethin soon.

get a socket just a size smaller than the shaft and beat it out with a rubber hammer or regular hammer w/ a piece of wood. Should come out

Did you take that weird nut off the end of the driveshaft that holds it to the brake rotor??? It takes a special socket with either three or four little nubs on it depending on the year. Got to take it off then the driveshaft just slides off the rotor.

shaft removal

I just did this myself.I machined a piece of 2'' dia. alum. to pilot inside the shaft about a 1/4'' & then drove it out of the bearing that it is stuck in. This method will prevent thred damage, but it does take a pretty good wack to break it loose.

Thanks for your imput guys, I just had to get out the Big Funkin Hammer. Needles to say if you happen to get the shaft out of the bearing take some emmery cloth and sand it down a bit and use lots of antisieze when you put her back together. I am hoping that next time will be a little easier.

Sounds like it's a little late now, but you don't have to remove the shaft or the brake rotor assembly to remove or install a track. Once you get the diamond drive off and all the bolts out of the brake side shaft bearing cage, you can work the driveshaft down and back enough to remove and install the track with the back of the sled well up in the air, or on its side. Done several this way. By far the easiest track swapping sled out there. :)
