I am selling a Hypertech programmer on Craigslist and these are the messages. What do you think?

Hi,
I'm glad it's still for sale. I'm going on a vacation to London but I will instruct my assistant to prepare and mail you your payment which I'm sure you will get it in about 4 - 6 business days. I'll add $20 extra for the delay. Money Order or cashier check is the means I can pay you with. If this is acceptable by you, Send me your info (i.e full name, mailing address and your phone number) so payment can be mail out immediately. I will also make arrangement for pick-up which will be after you must have received and cashed the payment. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Awaiting your info.
Thanks
Lisa

Then

I urgently have to bring something to your notice. I just found out that my Assistant overpaid you. The payment meant for another transaction was made out in your name and sent to you. However I want to believe I wont have a problem with you on this. Once you receive the payment, Please proceed to the bank and cash the payment, deduct your money and send back the balance to me via western union. So I can proceed with arrangement for pick-up. Once more, I hope I can fully trust you with this? I will await your response on this so my mind can be at rest.
Thanks
Lisa

send them the worst photo you can find on the internet.. I got one of these a while back when answering a craigs list ad. I believe I sent them a link to lemonparty.

"Hi,
My 1993 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo is in great shape, no engine problems, damages or hidden defects. It was always garaged. I`m a single mother with 2 children because I divorced my husband. After the divorce I got this beautiful car but I don`t need it and that`s why i`m selling it so cheap. The total price is $3,700 including shipping and handling. The sale will be through eBay's Protection Program for our safety. I have recently moved to Canada after the divorce and I took the car with me, that is why i am sending it from here. The car still has American papers so you will not have to pay any Customs taxes. I just need your full name, address and phone number so i can open a case.(with no further obligation to buy it or fees).

Have a nice day!
Adriana

oh ya its a scam, craigslist is the worst for scammers. every thing i have ever posted some one has tried to scam me on, especially some puppies i had on there. the one i get the most is a text to voice translation deal where the phone company or some other service reads text from a e-mail or instant message and translates it to voice to you then the online person wants to over pay you for the item and have you ship it to them the wants you to send them the overpayment back.

I had this happen on one of my dirtbikes a couple of months ago, guy from South Africa wanted to buy it and have an "agent" pick it up. Obviously this was a scam and it spotted it right away, however I decided I'd play along. The guy sent me a cashier's check, without a routing # and 2k more then what I was asking (extra was for the hassle of dealing intl). It was a good laugh, and it felt good to waste that tool bag's time..

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

There is no safe way to take a payment anymore, even with paypal...

Cash is king.

Craigslist sucks! That is about all I got was scams when I advertised my turbo nytro on there. When you finally get someone that is legite you don't even want to deal with it because you are automatically thinking everything is a scam. The only way to take payment is pay pal or cash in fist. Cashiers checks are the biggest scam going. They will clear your account for a minute. Then you send the Item and it is gone. Then the check comes back and you are stuck. A buddy of mine sold his t-nytro on craigslist and no problem. All I had was scams.

When I sell on Craigslist I give my cell number and say if interested to call as I will not respond to e-mails but I still get those hokey e-mails from some of them. Ken....

The funny thing about those scams is the only way for them to actually succeed is for someone to be stupid enough to send them the "extra" money before waiting for the money to actually get in their account.... why on earth would you do that? Anything with the words Africa or Western Union are a guaranteed scam.

I sell on CL quite a bit. Have learned to only put my ph# in the ad and check the button that doesn't allow any email. Got rid of most of the flakes that way.
