Help with 09 XP belt adjustment

I have around 700 miles on my sled, and thought I would adjust the belt

I losen the two nuts and go a quarter turn on the alan skrews, to make along

story short after backing the alan heads out all the way the belt is still down

over an 8th of an inch from were it should be. and theres no more room to

adjust. so i take my never used spare 377 and hold it up next to my older

one and they are the same width! what gives?

i am by far no expert but have noticed almost the same thing after 500 miles getting close to no more adjustment. my guess from seeing alot of belt dust is that it has wore away a small amount of belt not noticable to the eye but enough to the point of being out of adjustment. this is only a guess as i am no clutch guy. but hope to learn more.

Not sure what you are describing there, doesn't sound like how I tighten my belt..... using your doo supplied tools loosen the center lock nut inside the black thing on the secondary 4 full turns, then using the two pronged tool in your kit turn the black adjuster out about a full turn or so. Roll the secondary ahead by hand a bit, move the sled forward a few feet. Reach down to the primary and grab each side of the belt, it should move back and forth on the primary shaft about 1/16th to 1/8th of an inch each way. As tight as possible without squeeking is the way to be. Don't worry about visible deflection on your secondary, worry about how it feels down on the primary shaft. If it just won't go tight enough, like a lot of us you need to get it to the shop and get a few hundredths machined off of the shieve in the center of the secondary, lets it close more. Then, tighten the center lock nut back up 4 full turns. Should be good to go. Also don't reccommend going 700 miles without checking it! I usually reach down and wiggle it in the primary every ride.

I think they are using the new fancy adjuster.

Hey Nate they are using the 09 metal adjuster... I just changed mine to the metal instead of the 08 plastic adjuster. I had no problem getting my belt to tension the exact same....

Make sure you are tight with the metal washer against the housing, tighten the adjuster itself properly using lock tight!! My uncle (BOHICA) lost his on the mesa. Once lock tight no problems, then set the allen to adjust tension. I guess I'm saying it could have backed out a little..

My washer had a hang up, luckily I caught it and set it right or my tension would never be right. Hope I helped?? Not sure what else it could be other than the belt wear mentioned already......

my 09 has the plastic also. Make dam sure you get the locking nut tight enough when you mess with it - If they come loose, the plastic spacer that spins on the adjuster will grenade then the entire adjuster flys off and bangs around in the belly pan. I found out the hard way - 2 days in a row and 3 adjusters at $20 a pop later. I don't know alot about clutching but now I have this adjuster thing figured out!
