Need help with my buds full speedwerx mod M1000, last weekend bout 2 miles from the truck pulled over to decide our route for the day and it just flat died , like someone shot it!! Checked the obvious and nothing, no spark no lights flickering etc etc etc, I havent looked at it since but have been trying to guide him via telephone on what to do. had him pull the right side control assy apart and disconnect the kill switch, now at least he has lights flickering etc etc but no spark, this a.m. had him him go back in and disable the TOR and still nothing, he has checked the injector wires, ground under coolant bottle and pulled every plug from the ECU BCM and Boondocker box , cleaned and dielectric greased all of em, I havent been able to get up to check it with a DVOM but am suspecting its either a rubbed wire he has missed or a set of bad coils , or stator!! Not super familiar with the boondocker box but don't think it would kill the spark(from what I have read), this has been a reoccuring issue off and on since new , usually always starts, cant relate it to moisture conditions, or temp variations or altitude , when it runs it runs like a raped ape , any help would as always be appreciated , it does have a teather switch but dont think that is it unless it went teets up????????? Thanks arcticridr

the 1000 was known for rubbing the wires raw under the fuel tank 1st place id look or back by the tail light other than that ohm out the stator or bad ccu

Mine did this exact same thing a few weeks ago. It ended up being a stator. I found a few stators for around 200$. Good luck

Thanks guys I was gonna look myself tomorrow, start with the basic rubbed wire search, check grounds , pull the tank look for bare wires then if no luck break out the DVOM and check the stator, it was kinda funny when it died we had absolutely no fire anywhere, headlight wouldnt flicker or anything , like a direct short to ground, now that the kill switch is disconnected at least we have a headlight flicker , or so I am told, he put a new steering post in it a couple of weeks ago so I will look for weird stuff around this area will let you all know if I find it .. thanks

save yourself the time and hassle and put a stator in it. i chased my tail on a 1000 for weeks last year and it was the stator. you can find good deals on them (call Michelle at Oregon trail) or just have that one re wrapped.

Try by-passing the boondocker box. There are different coils on the stator for lights and ignition, unlikely both would fail at the same instant. I have very little faith in the boondocker boxes and have seen them take out ecu's and stators.

Ok tried everything unplugged TORS,Kill,Tether only get a wrench light flashing when you roll it over, removed and ohmed all coils all check the same @ 0.24 or so , lighting coil checks at 0.10, plug caps 4500-6000 ohms, number 1 charge coil I get an open , like zero, nada ,zip must have checked it 25 times with 2 different meters, #2 charge coil check @ 8.9 ohms , so unless their is something ???????? causing a ground in the # 1 coil I am going to assume its the stator????? Any thing I am missing on this test???? Could their be a ground situation due to a switch or sensor or a bad wire??? Have checked visibly all of the bad areas for rub thrus , only place I am concerned about is under the tank but I will have to remove it all the way to remove the protective covering to check for rubbed spots...I think the number 1 coil is toast!!! Thanks Arcticridr

Hey digger whats the easy way to bypass the BD box, not familiar with them and don't want to lose his settings or kill the box!! I am a little leary of it myself!!!

Just unplug the connectors at the injectors and eliminate the BD box.

But if your test shows a bad stator?

You can get rebuilt stators for a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks KSH, dont really think thats it but not sure if the BD box could cause a short in the charge coils , will give that a shot next time I go that way!!!

Was thinking maybe heat from the Speedwerx pipe and Can may have had something to do with it gonna try and make a heat shield or something to helpthat area stay cooler ... good thought thanks !!

My 07 M1000 had a similar issue this winter. Running fine then just died out of the blue. Got it started after about 45min. Took it to the trailer. Next day, started, ran 6 miles and died. Barely got it started after about 20 min and straight back to trailer. Never started again.

BAD COILS.

Replaced coils (thanks PowderPatrol!!) and it's been a running, raped ape since!

FFT.

Good luck and be diligent.

Hey Arcticrider, My friend had this same problem and it was the white/blue or the blue/white wire on the stator came off at the solder point, this happened twice. both times we re-soldered it back on and the sled started 2nd pull. The 2nd time we made the wire a little longer and have not had the problem since.
May not be the same thing but its worth a try.

Mnttamer, I think i saw where you posted that and was definately gonna check that out before ordering or having this one rewound!! thanks for the reminder. pmd ya
