Help - What smaller engines will bolt into a 2004 Rev 800

I have a high milage 2004 rev summit X that is not worth too much to sell due to the milage on the odo (engine is lower rebuild). It has reverse and I can add an electric start easy and cheap enough for my son. He is ten years old has rode it quite a bit on lakes in powder but I have not set him loose on a mountain alone yet. For both power and weight reasons. Could I bolt an older 500 or 600 engine in and use the clutches electronics etc? And keep the 800 engine for him a couple years? There are lots of 13 year olds on 800's here kicking dad's butts but he is too young now for all that power and weight.

Or is there a way to limit the power on the 800 and still make it run good? Even with an 800 it's still a pretty light sled compared to most older 600's

Again it's just an idea to save a decent sled. Unless someone in or around BC has a high milage M6 they want to trade.

Thanks for the help.

A 600 REV engine should bolt right in. May have to have the MPEM altered to run the 600, but don't know that for sure.

honestly...the 600 rips very well. i dont think it matters if you use a 6 or an 8.

not to mention the hassle...differant clutching..exhaust system...computer system...carbs...

unless you can find a COMPLETE running engine package..

then yes it will bolt in.

If i were you i would just keep that engine in there and just mess around with the throttle to allow only 1/2 throttle when the thumb throttle is pinned. That way he wouldn't feel all the power and you can gradually increase the amount of throttle as he grows into it
