My WE rear shocks in the skid are a little soft. I see on the long piston shock there is a 'nut' type adjustment screw but no direction as to which way is stiffer and which way is softer. As well, how many complete turns usually does the job? Im 215 lbs and the shock has 1500 miles and its starting to bottom out once in a while on harder hits. Im hoping to stiffen it up and get some more miles out of the rears.
 
Soft rear IQ suspension is a common complaint, but it is generally due to springs. I don't believe that is an adjustment, it just holds the screw that hides the nitrogen pressurization inlet. At least if you are talking about the common WE shocks on the Polaris dragons etc.

I had Fabcraft do the piston updates on both my dragon WE rear shocks, they used to just do the front-rear but this should work even better from what I hear. 0 miles on it yet though.
 
Maybe that is the nitrogen cover then as 'yes' thats the srew im reffering to. Do you guys think heavy duty springs are my culprit? If so what brand or style of springs should i look for?
 
I put a set of 375/47 degree springs on my dragon and it was the best thing I have done for the rear suspension. I weigh about 225 and I can run the springs on the medium setting. The polaris part numbers for left and right are

Hey guys, being a newbie what do these numbers reference? What is 0.405?
What is 375/47?

Can i get the 0.405 springs from my polaris dealer or is there a better aftermarket product i should be looking for?
How do i order the springs as well? Do i just say "I want 0.405 springs"

"Deepdiver" has these springs installed but I haven't gotten a feedback report yet. If he's checking the posts today instead of working (like I am) maybe we can get a report.
 
the 375 and 405 refer to the diameter of the rod that the spring consists of, the 47 refers to the angle of the part of the spring that sits on your adjuster block. The newer sleds come with springs that are 77 degree instead of 47 degree.
The 47 degree creates more preload allowing you to use a lighter spring and get the same results.

Like I said, I weigh in around 225 and thats probably being conservative, and the 375/47 work great on the medium setting for me, I could maybe even run them on the lightest setting. The sled sits at the top of the travel when it is empty and when I sit on it, the suspension only sags a couple of inches instead of halfway to the floor like it used to.

I have only taken 1 ride with the new springs so far but the seamed to still ride pretty nice, not too stiff and it definitly helped with weight transfer.
 
Hey mtnclimber, i called my local polaris dealership and they said those springs (375/47) are for the Edge chasis. I know you mentioned that in your post and that you run them on your dragon. Just want to make sure we have the same sleds and that these older model springs will work for me. I have an 08' Dragon 700 RMK.
Was there anything special you had to do with the install being these are for a different chasis?
 
Ya, when I put those part numbers in the first time I noticed that it came up as an option for the older edge sleds. But I knew the suspension were pretty much the same with minor changes so I ordered a set anyway and they fit perfect on my 08 dragon 700. They slipped right on with no problems. There was a suspension thread on the forum here in which these were talked about and I believe it was mtnhorse who posted the part numbers and recommended these springs, that is what steered me in this direction. Maybe pm mtnhorse if you need a second opinion.
 
The 47 degree springs are the better choice.

As far as the shocks go...you really need to get them serviced (both the front track and rear track and the front shocks if they have that many miles on them.

Have the FTS pressurized to 220 lbs and the IFP in the rear shock taken up to 210 lbs.

I'd send it into a shock specialist like TCP, FTX or back to Walker for the service... they are pretty quick and really know what they are doing compared to 90% of the dealer service centers out there.

at 245 plus gear the heavier springs made a big difference. I have it set on the lightest or lowest setting. My friend who is around 285 uses the SLp adjuster..he gets a broader range and the lightest setting is lighter than the stock spring adjuster. I will say there is no more rear sag.
