Help w 2005 900 efi king cat burn down

I have a 2005 900 king cat efi. I installed a speedwerks pipe,y pipe, can, v force reeds, slp air box, boondocker box, koso gauge. I burned it down on Friday. I have watched my plugs and piston wash since beginning. My gauges have not shown over 1100 degrees, it ran excellent for the last 10 trips or so. Then it burned down on friday. It never went over 1100 and now one plug was white and other looked normal. Had hole in piston on pto side and thats what shut it down. After tearing apart i found that opposite side a bunch of the jug coating is gone. I think Pto side can be cleaned up, looks like maybe just ring build up on cylinder wall. Not sure. OK can anyone offer any advice as far as what to do with cylinder that is missing coating as well as any other advice what to do now while its apart? I am getting rid of boondocker box I honestly think those are joke and contributed to my melt down. I am going to switch to a dyno jet. So any info or parts someone mite have would be VERY much appreciated. Sucks now we have snow and I can't ride. THANKS in advance for any info. Greg

Maybe you got some water in the fuel and popped a hole in your piston. There does seem to be alot of boondockers that don't work very well, but a hole in a piston is usually not a lean burn down. The other side sounds like a lube problem, warm up problem or you don't have the temp stingers in the right place.

Hole in piston is usually air leak, not saying it couldn't be water, just never had that happen.

i have burned a hole in a piston from the other cylinder fowling a plug. Ran the motor with a fowled plug in one hole and it burned a hole in the top of the piston that had a good plug. It only took about 3 minutes to melt a hole.

Here is a question for you. I thought with the speedwerx pipe you didnt need a fuel controller. just unplug the ethanol wire????

i was thinking the same thing , but maybe the slp airbox? needs makes it a bit leaner?

I think the key here is the air box.. Mine has CPI Single/CPC can, stock air box no issues 3000 miles ..to me wasn't worth the extra 3-4 hp to mod the air box and have to mess with a fuel controller of any kind!!:beer;

i just installed the speedwerx pipe and vforce reeds and only unplugged ethanol plug. running real good so far. the airboox mod and y pipe makes fuel box needed. from what i was told anyway.

Just wondering what altitude your running at im at sea-level im wondering if i need a fuel box to run a cpi pipe with a jaws can at sea-level. And also what clutching would i need???

I had a hole in my piston on my old yamaha from runnin the wrong plugs on a warm day. But its normaly air related hole in a carb boot or something like that...

I ran the same setup, minus the air box mod, without boondocker or unhooking the ethanol wire.

When you say the opposite side has cylinder damage do you mean the other side of the PTO cylinder or the MAG cylinder? You may have an oiling issue, add some premix in the first tank after you rebuild. If you ever blew a belt and wrapped the cords between the clutch and engine you may have damaged the crank seal causing it to suck air. If your crank has gone a little out of phase (fairly common on the 900 twin) it will result in advanced timing on the PTO side and potential detonation. Did that last tank of fuel come from a questionable source?

well thanks for the imput.

I got the fuel from the same place as always. I would love to be able to get rid of the efi box. Speedwerks told me that I should be able to run without boondocker but I wouldnt be able to run the air box. No biggee. I tried that but it ran like ****. So has anyone ran a similar set up as mine and not had to run a boondocker? And if so I would be willing to give up the box and the y pipe just for the piece of mind and not having to mess with it. Please any imput would help. Thanks

Have exact same sled with set-up that BUT a MC that i just sold to my bro. Burned down the pto side in revy!! Water in fuel! ring pin went and ring turned catching the top of the transfer ripping a chunk of the top of piston off and sticking in the head! I had even got the BD box set-up on the dyno! tuner said there was slight detonation and he recomended that i run a splash of race fuel which i never did. Rebuilt and everything is strong since just that side runs 100F hotter now for some reason??? don't know why...

If ya want to know that sled dynoed at 2200ft 161HP at 7700RPM on 91 octane. Torque i think was around 112ft lbs?? does that sound right?
