Plausable, i have experienced this in the past. I had a 08 gade that was using excessive amounts of oil. chased my tail on it for a while, new throttle cable, quadrupale checked oil pump cable adjustment, scratched my head a little, changed the pump and it fixed it. still not sure why, doesn't make much since, but it fixed it.
You have to lift the motor to get to the oil pump and change the cable, and it is possible the mounting arm for the cable was bent in the process, it my just be a fail safe in the pump, so that if the pump chit's itself it over oils instead of under and blowing up the motor. All I know for sure is the new pump fixed the problem.
Dont feel bad about having the cable changed, the are known for fraying and being an 08 I am sure it needed it, just too bad they didnt catch it while they were there and had it apart. That would be a tough one to catch tho as BRP teaches there tech's that oil pumps rarely fails. So an oil pump would be one of the last things they look at.
