3 of us will be making the 1200 mile drive from Canada to Kremmling, CO at the end of January. We will ride in CO for 3 days (29,30,31).

After those 3 days are over with, where should we ride? We don't have to be back home until Feb 7/8.

We are heavily considering heading to Island Park from Kremmling because we're familiar with the area and have never ridden there aside from spring conditions. We will be towing a 28ft enclosed, so road conditions are somewhat important as well. The time to drive doesn't bother us. Is the drive from CO to IP a bad one in the middle of winter? We want to be able to sled from our doorstep, no worry about theft and need to have fuel/food nearby.

Any suggestions or comments?

The drive in winter isn't too bad. Once you get over rabbit ears it is pretty much flat all the way with only a few small passes depending on which way you drive.

with 50+ mph winds and blowing snow and ice once u get in to wyoming

No Need to go to WY.... Could shoot straight across 40.

If it were me, I would do RE's for the 3 days, then head over to Grand Mesa for a couple days and then head to IP to wrap it up... That would be one awsome trip. GM has cabins that you can ride straight from.

After 3 days riding out of Kremmling I'd head over to the Grand Mesa for a couple of days, then I'd make a stop at Huntington canyon (Fairview Utah).
Then head north to IP. That would make one hell of a nice loop.

Head to Utah. Logan has some of the best riding around...been alot of places and honestly can say that i think we have some of the best areas. rather you like steep and deep, trail, boondocking, you name it we have it! PM me if you want info or if you would like a guide. Island Park is only three and a half from here also.

Taylor Park is another good one, theres spring creek, Italian creek and much more for a day of rideing. There is also cabins there that you can sled from.

must be coming down to ride with burandt in Kremmling. Rabbit ears would be a good stop, togwotee also, maybe even cooke. depending on which way you want to drive.

You bet we are. I've never been to Cooke, any idea what roads are open around there in the winter?

Assuming you want to meander north from Kremmling towards Canada, I'd opt for Afton/Alpine or Pinedale (blind bull) in west central Wyoming. That's about 1/2 way from Kremmling to IP. Then do IP.

Or, you could do Kremmling, Encampment, Afton, IP .. Now that would be awesome!

It really depends on who has the best snow. Can be a significunt difference in conditions in northern CO/southern WY than in west central wyoming and eastern ID.

Buy lots of Motrin ..

Think I would play it by ear, go where the storms go. Have a CO contact that can update you on the best places to go the few days you are in CO. Any reason why you are staying in Kremmling? Scary little town IMOP. :o Semi-close to tons of riding but not REAL close to any good Mountain riding.

It would suck to drive all that way and have a "plan" to ride in an area 30minutes from an area that just got 4feet of Freshy.....

:beer;:beer;:D

We'll be riding with Burandt when we're in Kremmling. Pretty sure he'll know where the snow is. However, we have a week on our own after that :)
