HELP-unknown problem

Hey everyone,
My 99 MXZ 600 has a problem I can't figure out. There is a noise coming from the track. It is a knock type sound that is not from the engine. It gets faster or slower as the sled does. One mechanic suggested a drive bearing but it's not louder on one side over the other. When riding it comes from under the hood right in front of the handle bars. It is similar to a chain when it skips. I did check the chain, sprockets and tension. All that is OK. I am going to be swapping tracks but I want to be sure and replace whatever is bad before I put it back together. Any suggestions?

Is your track ratcheting? Meaning it might be to loose. My 99 summit 670 did this but it wasn't to loose, one of the bolts on the runningboard next to your feet fell out and it was slop'n all over the place. Does it vibrate or get louder when you hit the throttle? Mine would only ratchet when I was hill climbin or gunnin it from a stop...

I would check your drive belt. I have seen people burn a spot in the belt, this will give you a simmilar sound, as you described. I had one fella that thought he blew his motor and it was just the belt. it will speed up with the speed of the machine.

Good advice from above.Check belt -then track for ratcketing. Does it make same sound when track is in air or just when your on it. How do the drivers look?
