help troubleshooting carbed 2008 IQ

K

knee deep in it

I just installed a Union Bay 727 into my 2008 RMK. If I put a cap full of gas down the spark plug hole, it will run for 3-4 seconds and then die. Spark and compression are good so it must be fuel.

Is there a troubleshooting order? Visible inspection is good. It has some gas in tank. Plugs are wet after I pull 20 times.

How do I check fuel pump operation?

Before I get too involved,I sure would appreciate some help.

727

I would clean the carbs. Odds are the idle jets are plugged. If it fired then you have spark and it the plugs were wet then the pump is working.

well, it gets more interesting. I pull the rope a few times and raw gas comes flowing out between the y pipe and the pipe. About a cup. Whole house stinks. I tried it again tonight and same thing.

Make sure to ventilate your house man, safety first! I've caught my garage on fire before and it was very scary!

Why so much fuel?

Sounds like needle/seats are not shutting fuel flow off... could be adjusted wrong, bad floats, or bad needle/seat. When you put the 727 in you didn't have to change carb angles at all did you?

I'm assuming its carbed and not injected... maybe bad assumption.

I have a theory - I think the gas is actually coming from the pipe. I may have filled the pipe with gas when I was first trying to start it. When it runs, there is some banging that sounds like fuel igniting in the pipe.

I am going to drain the pipe and then try again with a cap full of gas in each cylinder. I pulled the sled out to the back yard last night but it was too dark to do anything. Hopefully it works out tonight.

so i get home early to look at it in daylight. 2 pulls on the rope and gas comes pouring out between the y pipe and the pipe. About 1/8 cup in only 2 pulls.

I put a cap of gas in each cylinder and it runs for a minute. Go to start it again and the frickin pull cord snaps in my hands.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

well, sleds never cease to surprise me. The issue was the fuel pump. I had the impulse line and the fuel out line reversed. I have no idea how it could run on one cylinder but it did.
