HELP! still runs like crap! nothing over 7k

went out riding the last couple days and the sled is still runnin like crap, runs decent til about 6500 where power starts to break up and at 7 k there is nothing. just sputtering.
02 800 edge
360/370 jetting 8-9k ft, 10-62 weights, new 140-320 spring. slp head pipe airbox kit, vf3 reeds, new bellows, new orange ev springs, new head temp sensor, rebuilt fuel pump, this feels like ignition system somewhere, it runs decent at lower rpm, not great. doesnt matter if its on a trail, more noticeable in pow/hills.

any ideas? it did it at 4k ft, too with 420 jets
 
Unplug your temp sensor and see if the temp light comes on. Also see if it runs worse with the temp sensor unplugged. Sure sounds like its triggering the over temp safety.

Do you have access to another CDI from an '02? Maybe the CDI has failed.

newer reeds and looked good a week ago. i think i may try some 350 jets. it does run pretty good at part throttle below. its mostly when i go to full throttle.
 
This is gonna sound basic, but mine was doing about the same thing and I just swapped the plugs with new ones. Runs like a champ. Dirty plugs especially affect the top end.
 
i second that motion, check your power valve diaphrams... a torn diaphram will do that. cheap fix too, roughly $22 per diaphram to replace. i had this happen not too long ago. after messing with jetting and clutch settings the duh moment happened and i found the torn daiphram.

check the pilots repalce if dirty have the sator checked. and check key switch too. i have had to repalce stators on these sleds.
 
it"s the stator just did it to me on 03 edge sher sounds like the same thang it did to me i put 2 dif cdi box"s in it. and it was the stator found one on ebay for 75.00 works good was off broken sled.
 
Be real careful buying used stators. They go out every 3000 miles or so. CDI boxes also go out. The high beam switch also goes out and will really screw things up. I would be using 410s at 8000 feet myself.
 
what does the high beam swicht have to do with anything? mine is bad but i didnt think it would make it run bad?

You can/will have a live short. That can fry your vr and lighting circut, but shouldn't affect the way it runs. Only the lighting circut.
 
Like I said, a bad high beam switch can really screw up the engine. I know that for a fact. Make sure the engine is using oil as well. If it isn't then you are toasting crank bearings. The engine will be sluggish if not getting oil. Stators, CDI's, thermisters, plugs, plug caps, and the high beam switch will all effect the engine electrical performance on the 02.
 
well since the season is done im not really worried about it. but over the summer i plan on doing perc and a stator, and removing my light so that should fix it
