HELP! sled transport.

Here's my issue guys, my wheel well width on my new Tacoma is 41''. my ski width from outside edges is 45''. Option 1: use deck to flush with tops of wheel wells so that fitting between isnt an issue.
question: has anyone out there with a new model tacoma (COMPOSITE BOX MATERIAL) tried to heat up the weel wells to push them out 2.5'' or so on each one? I would like to do this.

Reasoning: yes puting a deck is quite simple, but my taco is lifted so the extra height from the deck and the extra susp. lift makes the ramp angle too steep for a 7ft tri fold ramp.

so i either need a ramp around 9 ft or i need to eliminate the deck. Thoughts?

However, ski stance is adjustable.... what are the downsides of a narrower ski stance? I like my setup and i would rather mess around with my truck box than my sled setup.

any ideas?
Cheers!

Marathon Sled decks in Edmonton makes a 10 ft ramp that slides togeather to 6ft , I think there a grand new. Maybe they have some used kicking around 4 cheeper. Worth a call

Narrower ski stance will make most sleds much more nimble and easier to lay over for powder carving and boondocking.
A wider stance is better for blazing around on groomed trails
What kind of sled do you have and what type of riding do you prefer?

09 m1000. to be honest i could care less about trail performance. (to an extent) I care mostly for powder/boondockin performance.
What do you guys have your ski stance at? is 41'' from the outside edges too narrow? can it go this narrow?
cheers.

Just an idea...

Instead of pounding on your truck why not just build a light aluminum frame that will sit in front of your wheel well so that you can drive ONE SIDE of the sled up on to the wheel well and then forward onto this frame which will hold the sled at a slight angle while in the truck.

Then when reversing out just put it in reverse and drive down off this frame you have built off of the wheel well onto the truck bed...

Just an idea I had when thinking of you out there with a torch and a LARGE hammer pounding on your $15k truck...

Track~

I was thinking about something similar...
How 'bout you just use 2X4's, plywood and some small strips of old plastic bed liner material and build a platform that stays inside the bed that only goes up and over the wheel wells (all the way accross) but does not drop back down to the bed level in front of the wells but instead remains at the same height as the top of the wells.
You could easily pull, or back out off the small raised platform that was only just under the skis.
Use the bedliner strips to keep the plywood slippery for backing out. You could even put strips all the way back on the bed and tailgate to protect the truck bed.

Simple enough to me???

05tacoma....

As you probably know by now, we have the same truck, and the same issue. What i resorted to is building a single place sled deck from steel. (thanks to those who emailed me plans!). Im gonna be building it very soon, this weekend hopefully. Once i get it done i can show you how it turned out...as for you ramp probem, a beavertail and folding ramp should solve it....

like a ramp that fold in two 5 foot sections making a 10 foot ramp?

I have a Dakota, and well I just pull the sled up and over the wheel wells. Then by the end of the season the wheel wells were bent in and the sled fits well like a glove.
P.S. I just use my truck for the sleds and I am not concerned about cosmetics

ok after looking at my sled and the distance between the wheels....i really wanna fit this thing in without a deck...(havent boughtt the steel yet).

lets brainstorm here 05tacoma....

no alum deck. too pricey. new sled has made me more than broke. its a big piss off because 42 inch wheel wells and 44 & 1/4'' ski width. an inch and a 1/4 per wheel well would do it.
not sure what will happen yet..

This is what most of the guys here that have baby trucks do!

i got a ranger and this what im gonna do.

get some 2x4's and make a frame in front of the wheel wells with a small ramp on the back end of the wells to get the skis up. then im gonna strap the skis down on the front hooks. the track will be sitting on my box liner. then i'll strap the back in to the tiehooks.

the front will sit a bit higher but will work.
