HELP!! polaris ranger 4x4 not working..

i picked up a 2005 ranger 4x4. turns out the 4x4 will not work in forward, it works in reverse though.. weird.. anyone have any idea what the problem could be???

Dude,

The problem could be alot of different things, from electrical to mechanical. It would be best to take it to the dealer and have them diagnose the problem and you can fix it if you want.

Try changing the front diff fluid. It is a special fluid from Polaris, only put in 5oz of it. If your not extremely lucky and this doesn't fix it will more than likely be the plastic cage in the diff. Don't buy diff parts from Polaris, PM me for part numbers and source, it is WAY cheeper.

Buddy of mine had a problem with his. His would stay in 4x4 after to switched it off and would force the handlebars to one side. Had to go forward/backward to get it into 2x. Doesn't sound like the same problem though. Sorry I can't help

I would agree, the cage or friction plate could be warped. Be quickest to pull the front diff. out and split.

Better yet use it your favorite golf course in reverse with a keg in the back. I always thought they made better golf carts than four wheelers anyway.

In the hubs there are some steel looking pucks that slid in and tell the system to turn off and on have seen one that got stuck that caused problems.
