Help out a rookie. Just bought first sled and have some questions.

So I just bought my first sled the other day. 2008 Ski Doo Summit 800. Since I bought it used, I do not have a user/owner manual or anything of that sorts and have a few questions.

First would be oil/gas questions. What pump gas should I be using. 91 oct? And as for oil, should I stick to the ski-doo 2 stroke stuff or will any 2 stroke oil work fine?

Also does anyone have a diagram or info on all the controls? There are just two yellow buttons on the left, I have a lefty throttle as well, no reverse. Pull start.

I have been on quads all my life, so I am not new to powersports, just new to snowmobiles.

Thanks!

Do a Google search for shop manual for your sled, I bought one on CD. for my sled On eBay for about 3 bucks.

Highly recommend non ethanol premium. I would use the ski doo synthetic stuff. Have fun. Are you sure you don't have reverse?

You should have reverse. There should also be 4 buttons. 2 yellows on top, a grey one under those, and a blue sorta on the side. The 2 yellows control heated grips and change gauge functions. The grey is reverse, and also electric start if you have that. The blue is high and low beam lights. Edit: Maybe the yellows don't control gauges, maybe it's only grip and thumb heater control. There are buttons for the gauges right under the gauges, but something makes me think the yellow does something to them as well. (Is it bad I can't even remember for sure and I own an XP? Lol)

Edit: Here's a pic to better illustrate.

Oh and for your other question - I run marked 91 (I get it for the same as unmarked 87 so might as well) and I use the Skidoo synthetic blend that they recommend.

i'm pretty sure all 08's have reverse. As far as oil, you'll quickly learn that the topic of "which oil is the best" is a very hot topic and you'll get a million different answers. I use the Castrol 2T oil. Just make sure it is OK to use in colder temperatures. Some regular 2 stroke oil (chainsaw, lawnmower, ATV, etc) will break down or sludge up in colder temps, so check to make sure its snowmobile oil or at least check the operating temp recommendations. Also check that the oil is injection compatible (klotz is not)...unless you already have or are going to do the oil pump delete mod.

Where do you get that Klotz is not injection compatible, their website specifically states that it is.

I was going to be a dealer for Klotz a couple of years ago and when i spoke with the regional rep, he told me it wasn't injection compatible, it was to be used as a pre-mix only. Thats why I walked away from it. Maybe they've changed something over the last couple of years, I haven't paid much attention since then. I do see where it says that its injection compatible now on the snowmobile oil. Interesting, it didn't say that a couple of years ago.

ive ran the doo mix and redline.the wallyworld shell blend for 12 a gal smokes like a bitch and stinks

I have been using klotz for years as injector oil.........

that regional rep must have been a meth addict or something.......

Klotz is fantastic oil for injector use.......
